Any apparent attempt by China to take Taiwan by force will be a feint to distract the US et al enough for them to get good "jump" on their true target (anywhere in south east asia/the island nations, or maybe even some of Auatralia's territory.) The primary reason that China wants to acquire Taiwan is to use their successful economy to help offset their own collapsed economy. Taking them by force would defeat that purpose since it would almost certainly lead to the destruction of a significant portion of Taiwan's infrastructure and thus heavily damage their economy. Were they to capture Taiwan in such a way, they would simply be gaining an additional economic liability rather than a beneficial offset.
