That's like half their staff... wow.

This is what happens when lawmakers care more about virtue signalling by being the first to pass a particular type of law than they do about passing such a law in a form which achieves it's intent without being unconstitutional. It's entirely possible to write a law which will accomplish their original goal without unnecessarilly trampling the rights of those doing no harm. The state legislators simply need to forget about the race to be first and actually pay attention to what they're doing next time.

They've got a monopoly and no one to hold them accountable but themselves...

It should be banned here as well. Regardless of your political views, conversion therapy is simply child abuse.

@Strrazor Was Trump there?

The legislature should have written the law in a way that would protect children without being unconstitutional.

The law was so poorly written that it dodn't just apply to drag performances with a sexual theme. Any performance of any kind (comedy, plays etc.) that involved someone dressed as a member of the opposite sex for any reason would be off limits to children. Even if there was clearly nothing harmful to kids involved. For example, the judge pointed out that the law would make it illegal for kids to attend a performance by a female Elvis impersonator. Essentially the law lumped all female/male impersonators in with strippers and cabaret dancers when it came to exposing children to their performance.

One of the issues is the type of sirens used. The gradual increase and decrease in pitch make it difficult to recognize the doppler effect and thus tell what direction they're coming from. They also tend to blend in with any music you might be listening to even at fairly low volume. It also doesn't help that car manufacturers take efforts to greatly sound proof the interior of their vehicles. If law enforcement would switch to those annoying diminished fifth interval sirens they use in Europe, it would help quite a bit. The doppler effect is much easier to recognize and their dissonance will cut through music better.

It was a Christian school... evidently, it didn't help.

As soon as it goes into effect, There should be a lawsuit filed against the state on the grounds that forcing a woman to carry a fetus and potentially give birth violates the 13th amendment. Even if the pregnancy doesn't put a woman's life at significant risk, it does cause her body to work much harder than it otherwise would. If that work is done against her will, then it meets the definition of "involuntary servitude."

This ruling will most likley be overturned at the next level and definitely so if it makes it to SCOTUS. The arguments just aren't sound.

DOGE barely had any employees to begin with. Losing 21 will hurt.

@aerialXace Feeding data into AI and then blindly following it's output isn't exactly a hard job...

Due to it's vague wording, the law they passed went far beyond what they intended to the point of being unconstitutional. The judge ruled on the end product not it's originsl intent. It's perfectly possible to write a law that would achieve their intent without being unconstitutional. The legislature just needs to ignore the race to be the first state to pass such a law and actually pay attention to what they're doing next time around.

They aren't auditing anything. This is a corporate raid on America.

Personally, I have sympathy for a veteran who got DOGE'd...

The judge threw it out because as worded, it wasn't limited to drag performances with a sexual theme. Any performance of any type (comedy, plays, etc.) in which someone impersonated a member of the opposite sex for any reason would be off limits to children. Even if such a performance was clearly not harmful to children in any way. The judge pointed out that it would make it illegal for kids to be present at a performance by a femsle Elvis impersonstor for example. Essentially, the judge threw it out because in their haste to be the first state to pass such a law, the Tennessee state legislature wrote a law so vaguely worded and broad that it went far beyond it's intent to the point that it became unconstitutional. They basicslly used a shotgun when a sniper rifle was needed. All the legislature has to do is rework it only this time, put at least some effort into aiming before pulling the trigger.

@lukeskywalker7021 They'd just have an intern do it for them

@Selah7791 Look up corporate raid strategies and then look at what this administration is doing...

He was a military veteran who got DOGE'd from his job and gave up.

I've about had it with this state... lived here all my life and I can't believe how petty the Republican state representatives have become. They used to be the mature ones. Now they're just a bunch of 12yo desperately in need of a good spanking. Pathetic.
