  1.  @tonysmith2045  No, McConnell (like pretty much everyone in the Senate) is under the mistaken belief that impeachment is entirely political and thus unimportant. It isn't. It's an administrative process/punishment. More along the lines of a regulatory body revoking someone's medical license for malpractice. It was intended to weed out those who abused or misused their power and should be taken much more seriously than it currently is.

  4. To be fair, it's a holdover from the Soviet military. The problem is, the Russian military got rid of the Soviet "fix" for it...Commissars. You can work around low morale if you have someone up front cracking the figurative whip. If not however it's a major problem. On the upside for Russia's enemies, high command now has to fill that role and that means generals at the front. Where they're much easier to eliminate.

The argument that allowing abortion bans would violate the 13th amendment's prohibition against involuntary servitude clearly applies and thus prevents the 10th amendment from applying. It seems he's more adept at making excuses than he is at constitutional law. Edit: Also, the final vote was 5-4. All he had to do was vote against overturning it and the problem would have been solved...

  20. In theory, people like McConnell can rationalize it by considering impeachment to be a purely political process. Which it isn't. It was intended to be an adminstrative process/punishment similar to a regulatory body suspending/revoking someone's license to practice medicine for malpractice etc. That's not quite the same thing as just being political.

  26. Because the current data shows that the vaxxed have significantly less severe symptoms as well as deaths/hospitalizations due to it and are at least a little less likely to catch it than the unvaxxed. Unfortunately, current monoclonal antibody treatments are pretty much useless against it.

  28. Technically, a President can declassify classified information. Generally, the official paperwork etc. is handled before the information is released but it's not required. That said, it may not be criminal but it's definitely stupid.

It just requires that the jury be unanimous when answering each of the necessary questions pertaining to punitive damages. There's a requirement that, when punitive damages are sought, the jury must agree unanimously that there is liability on at least one claim for actual damages. Such liability can be unanimously agreed upon without there having been a unanimous agreement over the amount of the previously awarded compensatory damages. (The original 10-2 vote was over the amount of the compensatory award, not liability for it.)

Ukraine agreed to give up it's nuclear weapons (which they wanted to keep to discourage a Russian invasion) in return for NATO agreeing to defend them militarily should Russia ever invade them. NATO now refuses to honor that agreement out of cowardice. If Ukraine still had it's nukes, Russia would never have attempted this invasion. It's shameful and the people of NATO's member countries should demand that they uphold their agreement or be dissolved.

He was always going to be second best because he's a joke of a candidate for anything other than football/college halls of fame. It was just a formality due to Warnock not getting 50+% the first time. The media hyped it up because...the media, but the final result was never really in doubt.

  34. I can't find any cdc reports that made such a claim (the current data doesn't seem to support it either.) Regardless, the problem with natural immunity is that you have to actually catch the disease to build it. More cases means more opportunities for a viable variant to pop up. If enough of the population go for it rather than getting vaxxed, the number of cases required could likely see one or more new variants pop up along the way which their newly acquired protection might not work well against. It's pretty much a one step forward, two steps back approach. That's why vaccines are prioritized. Edit: I missed the recent report they made concerning the delta variant where natural immunity did appear to be a little better than vaccines when it comes to catching it. When looking at all variants as a whole, the vaccines have generally appeared to be more beneficial.

  36.  Randall W  ~6.5% of confirmed cases in Sweden have been fatal. The US rate is ~3%. People are more reckless here in the US and therefore a higher percentage of our population have caught it. However, thanks to our healthcare system, our odds of surviving it if infected are much better. To be fair though, if you adjust for population difference, Sweden would have around 200k dead as well so the advantage of the lower mortality rate in the US ends up being wasted due to the increased infection rate. Edit: Also, Sweden has a population density of ~64/mile^2 while the US is ~93/mile^2. So recklessness might not even be the primary reason for the higher infection rate in the US

With all the grift involved at all levels of the Russian military, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if the funding for the periodic replenishing of the tritium gas in their warheads wound up in some general/oligarch's bank account instead. Tritium has a halflife of ~12.5 years and decays into He-3 which is a neutron absorber rather than supplier. Anything over ten years without the tritium being refreshed and it becomes increasingly likely that the warhead simply won't be able to detonate. Like many countries Russia likely runs a maintenance program that is supposed to refresh the tritium every ten years (staggered so that a certain amount of warheads are dealt with each year). Since no one would think the nukes would ever be used outside of a "doomsday" scenario (where such theft being discovered would be the least of the thief's worries) and the secrecy of the nuclear program meaning only a handful of people would need to be bribed, that funding would look like easy money to whoever's in charge.
