Romans 6:1-7
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

You said the Bible said all we need do is to Believe in the Lord Jesus. It's quite interesting the point you made cause that point alone tells us to keep from sin.
If you believe in the Lord Jesus, then it means you believe his teachings and his lifestyle. You believe in his words and that he died for us. Here is what Jesus had to say about sin himself:
Matthew 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 5:20, 48
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven...
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
John 8:34
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
LASTLY,
John 8:10-11
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
