@bekeneel I reckon the 2 percent is enough to maintain current posture which is fine in peace time, but I also reckon more than 2 percent will be needed to gear up for the war which is inevitable if the Putin regime survives this war, which they will if the west allows Ukraine to fall.

I would suggest buying Mike Johnson a one way ticket to Moscow, but, more seriously, something needs to be done pronto to fix this. I've only heard of two realistic ways of doing it, either by voting Speaker Johnson out for good, or by bypassing him through a discharge petition and force the vote. The trick is, you need a majority for both these solutions, but otherwise we are looking at a completely dysfunctional Congress.

It's obvious Putin's ruzzia cannot hope to gain a military victory over anybody, with the possible exception of the Vatican, but the real danger are the fifth columnists in influential positions in various countries, notably in the US. Funny, though, I always thought FBI was supposed to take care of that lot. It's not like this hasn't happened before, like in the 30s when there was even a coup plot in motion. Of course, apparently now in 2024 there's already been a coup of some sort, since they have managed to effectively hijack the Congress and are holding democracy as hostage. Thanks, Jake.

@BustedControler You do realize there was that exact package in the works, negotiated over several months but the Republicans in the Senate voted it down? So, there was a lot of tax payers money going for just that, not to mention that most of the Ukraine funding is actually about securing defense industry contracts in the US benefiting the whole production chain with jobs and revenue. That is something that Vladimir Putin does not want, so some key Republicans are siding with Russian interests and choose to vote against US interests. That's the issue here.

@BustedControler As you full well know, the money did not 'get pulled out', the Republicans in the Senate killed that bill.
