  1. The final years of the USSR were the most exciting (I was 20 in 1991). Gorbachev's policy of GLASNOST made Soviet newspapers and magazines so interesting! I still have a file full of newspaper clippings from those days. Topics of war in Afghanistan, GULAG labor camps, Stalin's purges, and so on... The same could be said about Soviet TV. The comedians could joke about our leaders with no fear of being arrested. Video saloons where we could watch Commando and Predator movies for 1 ruble. Those were fun times!
