Not really. I started disliking the Soviet way of life only in my teenage years (I was born in Kyiv in 1971) but my childhood was great. Way more fun than my own children (I live in Michigan now)

Everyone in the USSR was required to finish 8 years of school. Smarter kids went on to attend 9th and 10th grade, while others went to the workforce or trade schools (so-called PTU - professional technical college or Technikum - technical college). So your lady went to a PTU to become a seamstress. Nothing unusual there

Anna, just one question. How old were you in 1991, when the USSR collapsed?

@AnnafromUkraine OK, it's all I need to know. You are a post-Soviet child, pretty much. Grew up on the Chip'n'Dale to the rescue, right? ))

When I see my kids spending their precious childhood staring at the phone screens or playing video games, my Soviet childhood looks amazing. Not sure how old Anna is to share her memories about her Soviet childhood, but I remember mine vividly and it was great. Soviet reality became annoying when I became a teenager

@AnnafromUkraine I can compare my childhood to my kids that are growing up in Michigan, and I feel sorry for them. We came home from school, and parents were at work, but no kid stay at home watching cartoons on TV; everyone went outside to play. I had more adventures in one month than modern kids in a year. Yes, my parents' life was pretty bad, grandparents' was even worse, but Soviet childhood in the 70s and early 80s was great. No myths there
