French where the weak point in the chain up to the 90's. The turning point was Nato's spending on airpower and guided weapons under Reagan's term which would've targeted logistics. The USSR's follow on forces where horrific,a lot of vehicles not having radios and still relying on flag holders at choke points. This would've held up the soviet's long enough for the massive US reforger coming in.

@R83jf8whdih1o working in opfor in Germany, It was common knowledge every single unit we faced, their composition, logistics, even down to their commanders. SF where tasked in stay behind roles to take out those flag bearers and airpower to target those forces bottlenecked up because of it.

@TheGreatAmphibian I don't give 2 shits what you believe. The sigs detachment in Berlin knew even more.

@alganhar1 THe average grunt didn't need to know but from coy commanders upwards it was common knowledge what the plan was and who we where facing.

@panderson9561 As for the above, the soviets hoped to get to the French through the fulda gap asap before the US reforger could take effect. The French reliance on conscripts and a post de-gaulle mistrust of the Army left it in a weakened state. Hence why we had one of their best shock army's facing us to get to them. We had lines of when tac nukes would be deployed as a last resort fired from 155 and 208 artillery. The warheads based at a hidden barracks near Munster,British patrolled it,US inside the complex.
