  2.  @Shureykin  US drawdown was mostly done by 2014. Most of the country was under coalition control then. In 1989 the mudge controlled most of the country,the Russian forces even had to negotiate a safe passage out so they wouldn't be ambushed on the way out. As per usual the Russian forces broke this ceasefire killing many civilians with Long rockets and artlillery.

In 2004 the Taliban offered to give up to the US but Karzais corrupt peado government wouldn't accept a power share.

It was the shambolic tactics of the Russians that was the problem,remote outposts supplied by road with non existent patrolling to dominate the land. Even the area round Kabul was mudge territory hence why two hinds had to fly either side of transport aircraft as they took off and landed to take a hit for the team. The Russian convoys where massacred,drug use and alcoholism was rife amongst the conscripts. The Taliban was beaten in 2001 where it was pushed over the Pakistani border. In 2004 they offered to surrender to the US but Karzais corrupt peado government rejected it. They then rearmed,regrouped and retrained under the Pakistani IS and the rest is history. The west was out by 2014 but Afghans corrupt government spent the police and soldiers wages on apartments in Dubai. If you want some names of well sourced books on this subject where you can read this ill oblige. Some of the photographs of those convoys and the treatment of Russian prisoners is quite graphic.

No 1 you're wrong they did,ive got evidence in the sourced books below they did and also about the Alcohol and drug use. By the way the photo graphs and sources are Russian. Afghantsy by Roderick Braithwaite and The Soviet-afghan war by Anthony Tucker Jones. These contain Russian interviews and photographs so you can't play the western propaganda card. The air losses where quite horrific too. An Antonov an-22 returning 250 troops was taken down amongst the 500 or so aircraft downed. The Russians mined the countryside indiscriminately,their was still thousands littering the countryside when we got there. Western aid and intelligence from the early to mid 80s. This is highlighted in those books. Third,yes it was driven out and then re-trained by the Pakistani IS,do you need some books highlighting this? Fourth I've highlighted the drink/drug problem amongst the Russian conscripts. After finding survivors from those convoys brutally tent pegged out,disemboweled and surrounded by landmines,no wonder. Fifth,i didn't bring ISIS up but yes the Taliban are fighting them The equipment wasn't needed and definitely wasn't worth 75 billion. Some old blackhawks,humvees,mraps,and some light attack aircraft which would've cost more to ship out than leave there. Neither the Taliban nor the houthis kicked anyones arses. The taliban beat a government that was corrupt and didn't pay it;s soldiers and police and the houthis struggled to hit the right country never mind a warship ( which they didn't do) But I've provided the evidence that those men in sandles did give Russia a good kicking with those books and can provide more.
