  1. You are correct. That's because democratic presidents can be relied on valuing life, so they won't press the big red button. Trump doesn't suffer from that "weakness". The question here is... do you really want to find out what happens if he decides to try it out? Last time he was president the US lost 1.2 million civilians. If the button comes into play, then 120 million will be a lucky lower estimate. It could be many more than that.

  3. That is not as hard as you think. I was a conscript in the army of a NATO country when I was 18. I fully understood why it was a necessary disruption to my life. I also met and talked to cadets that were going to become officers. They explained to me that their families had a long history of service and that they were proud to become members of their country's military. There are enough people who believe in the mission of defense forces, just as there are enough police, first helpers, fire crews etc.. Pay these people a decent salary and give them the respect they deserve by putting their lives on the line and you are fine as far as staffing is concerned.

  4. Be careful what you wish for. A lot of European countries are teetering at the edge of the fascism cliff. So let's give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you don't want American fascism for yourself. Are you then actually interested in European fascism rising. Again? How did that work out for America in the past?

  5.  @hydronpowers9014  At the end of the day fascism is just the political expression of the desperate violence of the unloved and unloving male. It's a collective cry for help that usually results in the deaths of millions of innocent people.

  9. Europe doesn't have a choice in that regard. Look how Brexit turned out for the British. The US has over 300 million citizens. China and India are close to a billion and a half. The largest European country, Germany, has around 80 million. The only way Europe can compete is by being a collective of countries representing 500 million people. One could argue that the Euro was a bad idea, but then so is the US dollar, if you are looking at it from the level of individual US states.

  11. After WW II we forced the Germans and the Japanese to promise that they would not seek to develop nuclear weapons. In return we told them that we would be defending them. This turned out to be both costly and counterproductive in the long run because it left a power vacuum both in the center of Europe and in the Pacific. We made the same mistake with Ukraine not very long ago and it has already come to bite the Ukrainians because we are not honoring our promise. The world is learning that we aren't reliable and that everybody who wants to be safe has to go nuclear. Do you really want that? Really?

  12. Yes and no. Part of the problem is Germany, which is restricted in its military (it can, for instance, not have nuclear weapons and long range weapons, if I am not mistaken) by its history and its post WW II peace treaty. It was not supposed to be sufficiently armed and as a result it isn't.
