  5.  @titan9259  I feel you. Have you been near the equator? There you have the opposite situation... sunsets and sunrises feel way to rapid. And in Australia I got lost all the time because the sun was going around the wrong way in the sky... well... it was where it always was, of course, but I was upside down!

  6. The ancient Greek didn't treat their mentally ill very well. That's why you tried your hardest not to appear mentally ill back then. Tolerance is a double edged sword. Today some of the mentally ill think they can run the asylum.

  8. I have been to the Arctic. It's a strenuous trip. You are cold, you feel sick, the protective clothing is weighing you down like a ton of brick and the sight of the ice desert is depressing. Go with Robert Scott's desperation "Good God, what an awful place this is.". That is exactly what it is. The only experience worth having for me was the silence. I could hear the blood rushing through my ears like as if it was Niagara Falls. It was that silent. Just me, ice (occasionally cracking) and the prospect of death if our technology and support systems happened to fail. I don't want to go back there, ever.

  9.  @GetMoGaming  Because I was on government tours for a science project. If we could have done the same experiment in the tropics I would have greatly preferred that but the necessary physical conditions can only be found in the arctic regions of this planet.

  10.  @GetMoGaming  The best part of it was the flight. We saw blue ice on enormous icebergs. That was very pretty. Once on the "ground", though, it was a horrible experience. Cold, cold and cold. Most people got sick and there was no place where one could really warm up. One can, of course, "survive" arctic summer in tents... but it ain't fun. No matter how many layers of insulation you wrap around yourself, you are still working and (worse) sleeping inside your fridge's freezer compartment. There are very few people who actually enjoy that. They do exist, but I think it was one guy who was like that out of literally hundreds who were working on that site during that season. Everybody else was just doing "the job" that had to be done and we all wanted to get out of there. I went for a tropical vacation afterward. I had to compensate. Hawaii is much, much better.

  11.  @titan9259  That's probably still OK. Try North of Greenland on a cold day. We had as low as -30 degrees C or something and wind chill on one day. I thought I would die as soon as I got out of the shelter. Admittedly... one can probably get that as well in Arkansas. ;-)
