@jonathanjollimore7156 Hmm... maybe less weed in the cookie will be better, next time?

Rulers don't expand. Only empty space expands. Objects that are bound by a local binding energy stay the same size, at least for now. If dark energy is real and the expansion of the universe accelerates, then there will be a time when bound objects will start expanding and dissolving.

Then it will be, eventually, seen in the data.

@jonathanjollimore7156 You had too many holes and zero time to think before you spoke. :-)

That's where the rubber band comes in.

And she didn't say that the universe was infinite. She said that Einstein's theory treats it as infinite. Even that is a bit of an overstatement because that is only the case for flat and hyperbolic spaces. One can construct closed universes within Einstein's theory, but even then such a closed universe would be bigger, possibly much bigger, than the visible universe. Which of these cases is realized in nature is not known and may never be known with certainty.

Next up: the earth is flat.

@luiseduardohd Wikipedia has an article about the "Ultimate fate of the universe". It has the right keywords. The problem is that predictions, especially about the future, are notoriously difficult. Take what you read and hear about this topic with a good dose of skepticism.

Yes, and now you are back to the sins of geocentrism.

@niceshotapps1233 Where are you seeing a random distribution of galactic velocities? And how is there an epicenter when supposedly nobody can tell that there is an epicenter? That doesn't even make sense logically.

And like every place in the universe you will be incredibly lonely in the future. Indeed.

Then you respond that all of this can be seen in the night sky. Takes a lot of telescope time, though, so if you wanted to repeat the observations that have been done, so far, then you would probably have to find a guy with tens of billion of bucks to pay for the necessary toys and manpower.
