@Pulikaeshi There are alternatives to Canadian softwood? Are you growing a forest in your back yard by any chance? ;-)
12
@Pulikaeshi They will simply sell for the same price, the company importing it will pay the 25% tariff and then they will resell it to you at your local home improvement store for that much more. Fact: in 2016 the federal government collected $35 billion in customs revenue. This year it is collecting approx. $100 billion. The increase began under Trump. By the end of Trump's second term the federal customs revenue might be at $120 or $150 billion and ALL of it comes out of YOUR pocket. It's just a hidden tax on the poor. :-) If you think that Trump caused the government to shrink, then think again. He greatly expanded it in the tariffs area and now the feds are addicted for that money. It's much, much easier to raise than with taxes which people will notice right away. :-)

They are good for the federal government. Trump is trying to generate approx. $20 billion in additional customs revenue. With his intended savings on government services that will be enough to give out $100 billion or more in corporate tax cuts. It's very, very good for billionaires like Elon Musk. ;-)
3
@Argonaut121 Yep. It's like talking to three year old children with the Trumpers.
3
The Israelis aren't really complaining. They are cleaning house, though.
3
@sam4soph1 What did Israel lie about? They said that they would go into Rafah and they are going into Rafah.
3
@Pulikaeshi Your house needs a new beam and you won't buy it? What are you going to put in instead? Some rolled up newspapers? Oh, wait, you don't have any... you already used them as toilet paper. ;-)
2
@Pulikaeshi You are going to get tomatoes, avocados and dimensional lumber for construction from India? You and who else? :-)
2
How are you getting your money back by paying more money to the federal government? ;-)
2
@Boostwerks Well, it's up to the Palestinians to decide if they want to send another two, three or four generations of young people into a fight they can't win. What kind of parent does that, though? Would you want to be the children of such parents?
2
We will simply rinse and repeat. If you don't learn the first time and you don't learn the second time then you are exercising your right to demonstrate the definition of insanity. ;-)
2
Are you getting help with that? It sounds serious. ;-)
1
I am sure that sounded really grand inside your head. On the outside it sounds like somebody who is desperately looking for attention. That's no different from Hamas, which was also looking for attention. That neither of you like the kind of attention that you are getting... well... that's just too bad.
1
@lukesimas And there is the silly person who is threatening everybody on the internet with his invisible friend. Dude, are you for real? :-)
1
I have heard that Trump has been seen golfing just three miles away. ;-)
1
Or are they?
1
@franklin9400 Good luck with that fantasy.
1
@franklin9400 You need to lower your weed intake, kid. You are hallucinating. ;-)
1
@franklin9400 I don't know what "tense charges" are supposed to be. Is that your verbal diarrhea trying to escape the fact that the Israeli government operates freely with basically no actual interference from the rest of the world?
1
@franklin9400 Apologies. That was my poor vision (I am an old man) coupled with my impression about your desperate projection of your imagination playing a prank on me. ;-)
1
@franklin9400 Israel is hardly isolated. I am pretty sure the diplomats of the US, all of Europe and many countries in the region are talking daily to their Israeli counterparts. That's far more attention than Hamas is getting. ;-)
1
Did Hamas extend a peace offer? Probably, but not in this universe.
1
@stevencat2994 That is correct. The Palestinian fight is pointless. These people should have moved away 75 years ago. They could have given three of four generations of their children better lives, already. Instead they are teaching nothing but hate to them. What a waste of human life.
1
Cool story, bro. In reality federal customs revenue was $35 billion before Trump took office in 2017 and now it is close to $100 billion. With Trump's new tariffs it will rise to $120 billion or so. In other words, Trump is taxing Americans with an additional $85 billion. In total that's around $375 in hidden taxes per person per year.
1
@duanekelly-fe5bt It's simply a fact that Trump expanded the Fed's customs revenue THREEFOLD and he is about to make if FIVE- or SIXFOLD. :-) That is all money that comes out of YOUR pocket. ;-)
1
In 2016 federal customs revenue was $35 billion. This year it's $100 billion. After these new Trump tariffs it will be $120 billion. This has nothing to do with border security. Trump simply needs money for tax cuts to his billionaire friends. By the end of his second term Americans will be paying $500 per year per person in hidden taxes that will benefit exclusively the super-rich. ;-)
1
Can you show me where in the US Constitution it says that these people are being owed more? Or anything at all, for that purpose. :-)
1
@Silence_Duder_Gooder They aren't getting taxpayer money. They are getting the world's most efficient weapons, which is what really triggers the Russian trolls. Time to grow up, child. ;-)
1
@Pulikaeshi A tariff is not a tax on the producer country. It's a tax on the US buyer. Dude, how much have you been drinking? Trump has already TRIPPLED the tariffs on Americans since 2017 and he is going to raise them FIVEFOLD if he goes through with his plans. Whatever happened to small government here? ;-)
1
@jojohns1949 So you can do just about anything that gets you to poverty level. Sound of one hand clapping. ;-)
1
We aren't broke but the government has very little responsibility beyond search and rescue and the construction of safe infrastructure. Anybody who thinks that they have to be compensated by the government for their losses needs to think again. That's not how it works.
1
@ms.t5974 You are correct. Trump never did anything of importance. He was mostly golfing and whenever he wasn't he would say something incredibly stupid, so the nation was doing much better while he was golfing. ;-)
1
@ms.t5974 Gaslighting his voters was, for sure not important to the nation. It may have been important to the voters, though. Some people just can't stop sniffing glue. :-)
1
Because these people have no artistic imagination of their own. ;-)
1
So basically... NASA has been given a load of horsecrap by crazy republicans and it can't say no to holding it. :-)
1
Dude, when was the last time you bought something from Canada? And do you really expect for manufacturers who are making things in Mexico to bring the jobs back to the US over 25%? They will simply raise prices by that much and you will be paying. :-)
1
@Jay-nq2jl Wise up how? Neither Mexico nor Canada are dumping products into the US. Many products from Mexico are actually made there by American companies for the US market. They will simply pay the tariffs and then hand them down to the US consumer.
1
The US is wasting taxpayer money on crazy people? What's new? There are hundreds of crazy GOP politicians sitting in Congress and the Senate. :-)
