Are we giving steroids during acute COVID-19 treatment? Yes. At that point we are not fighting the virus any longer. We are stopping the immune system from causing additional harm to the patient.

@monanemani742 That's in patients with severe COVID-19 infections. That viral infections can cause long term damage and trigger cancer and immune system diseases is well known. It's not particularly specific to COVID-19. We may see significantly lowered life expectancy for a generation. That's a bridge we will have to cross in 20 or 30 years.

@monanemani742 Do you have a citation? I would really love to see that. If it turns out that there are severe long term health consequences in a large number of people who only had mild infections, then our long term healthcare costs are going to exploded even further. Damn! I hope not but what does hope have to do with anything, right?
1
@monanemani742 If you don't have it at hand, don't worry. I'll try to find it myself.
1
Why would it? It simply didn't convey resistance to the virus in people who don't have a suitable immune repertoire. Of course, neither did the virus. Did they teach you any logic in school? :-)

It's kind of hard to recover from death. Even for the healthiest and fittest. ;-)

If you have "natural immunity", then you had COVID, which means you were a vector at one point. There was absolutely nothing safe about being around you. :-)
1
Yes, you are right. Eight of my relatives have acquired natural immunity twice now, one couple even three times. It works great. It makes you sick over and over and over, again. :-)
1
Natural immunity worked great for my relatives. Eight of them had COVID-19 only twice and two others were lucky enough to catch it only three times. Just imagine what would have happened without natural immunity! :-)
1
So they told you what you wanted to hear? That's great. Just imagine how bad it would have been if they had told you something you didn't like to hear. ;-)
1
@dr.stefanpilz1876 What was hard work? Pretending that natural immunity exists? Why is that hard? A simple look at reality will tell us that it doesn't. Plenty of people had two and three infections by now (including ten of my own relatives). So why is pretending that the opposite of reality is true hard work? You won't find any evidence for that statement to begin with, so you might as well just confabulate.
1
What makes you think that the virus has a portfolio that contains Pfizer stocks? :-)
1
@kevspencer5744 Kev, paranoia is not an argument, kid. It's a clinical symptom that something doesn't work right in your mind. :-)
1
Look, Ma! There is another kid who needs attention desperately. ;-)

Der Naturwissenschaftler wird dir sagen, dass so etwas wie "natuerliche Iminutaet" einfach nicht existiert. :-)
1
The empirical data says that there is no natural immunity. You can ask ten of my relatives. Eight had COVID-19 twice and one couple had it three times, already.

@davestennes305 Yes, the only parallel that is missing is mortality. Neither the common cold nor the flu will kill you. COVID-19 will kill up to one in 200 people. That is completely independent of your personal feelings about any one individual.
1
@davestennes305 I didn't even have a flu in 15 years. Oh, wait... I have been vaccinated against flu for the past 15 years. Flu has been a non-problem for decades. ;-)
1
@davestennes305 I am pretty sure the virus cares about your personal preferences for doctors a lot. ;-)
