  1. They probably had that... but if they imploded, then chances are that the shock wave destroyed that piece of technology as well. The US navy probably knows what happened. We have acoustic sensors in the ocean (and on all our submarines) that can detect such events, but I am fairly certain that the information is classified because saying what happened would tell other nations what the limits of our capabilities are.

  3. Because people are stupid. The visibility under water is horrible and what little can be seen can be seen much better with cameras. There is absolutely no reason to be down there.
