  1. New York to Boston is a little over 200 miles... the perfect distance for train travel, still slightly too short for flying. Now, try 600 or 800 miles on that same train. You will be kicking yourself for that bad choice.

  3. He said it clearly: passenger rail was unprofitable before we had cars and planes and it can't compete with either for short or long routes. Trains are basically not a good option for the US. No amount of magical thinking can fix that.
