Sounds cool but it doesn't work because the aperture of a hologram limits the visible optical volume. Such a hologram has to be made several times larger than the image it shows just to cover a reasonable viewing angle range.

Nobody except for thousands or physicists, mathematicians and engineers who have written tens of thousands of papers about it. ;-)

@ Digital holograms have been a thing since at least the late 1980s and I only know about that research by chance. I expect that it has started way earlier than that.

@ A hologram is not a projector. There is no such thing as holographic projection.

@ Yes, I did notice that you don't understand how holography works. :-)

@ Yes, and I am literally saying that you weren't paying attention in school. ;-)

@ Yes, you can't understand physics, either. ;-)

Yes, and a pure sinewave as a hologram simply deflects a flat wave front by a wavelength dependent angle. It's basically a perfect grating that only reflects in one order (but in two directions, so it makes a double image). Not very useful, not even as a spectrometer grating.

I won't. There is a simple artistic reason for that: composition. Imagery only looks good to humans when it has certain proportions and elements of the image are placed in certain ways. That's what artists and good photographers do: they compose images so that they excite the viewer. As soon as you let the viewer change perspective, even the most carefully crafted image or movie scene looks like a boring view of a DMV office. 3d kills artistry and holography doubly so. Try buying a 3d tv... they are gone. It jus doesn't work.

@ Video games are enjoyable because they raise adrenalin and other hormone levels. That's not caused by the imagery. It's caused by the possibility of "dying" in the game. You can have the worst graphics (or even no graphics at all) and it still works. It's basically the same mechanism as gambling. It has nothing to do with 3d.

@ The most exciting game I ever played was Doom. It has absolutely lousy graphics. Still beats the crap out of most games that only run on a 16GPU supercomputing rig as far as excitement is concerned. You can get the same feeling out of asteroids and tetris. And if that is still too graphic for you, go play poker. :-)

@ It still invalidates your claim that graphics are important. One can still play asteroids, tetris and DOOM today. That's because graphics are not important. ;-) Minecraft is for people on the spectrum. The best Sim City player I have ever seen was a twelve year old autistic boy. If you are not on the spectrum, then these things won't do anything for you. I do enjoy one other old game: Gazillionaire... talk about shitty graphics. It's available on Steam, again. Nobody needs EVE Online. Gazillionaire is way more fun and won't rob you blind. ;-)
