One should probably point out that life in basically every country in the Middle East is dominated by "a constant fear of persecution and death". It's not particularly limited to Israel, Gaza or the West Bank. That fear might be less in the rich Gulf states than in Syria or Lebanon or Iran, but it is there. It's a design element of autocratic governments that dominate the region. No individual is ever completely safe if they decide not to conform.

The King David Hotel is an interesting example of selective historical amnesia. The perpetrators gave ample warning that an explosion would occur, yet the hotel was not evacuated by the authorities in charge. Anybody who doesn't mention that has an obvious agenda that does not shy away from falsifying history. As far as Israel's actions now are concerned... they make perfect sense. The Israeli state has a responsibility to keep its citizens safe, even at the expense of the lives of those who threaten them. That is the standard definition of the powers of the sovereign state. It can respond with absolute and even unreasonable violence (that's the standard definition of war, if you like) to protect itself and those who form it. We may wish to live in a world where such arrangements are unnecessary, but recent events (not just in Gaza) have proven beyond any doubt that we don't.

I recently saw a real time video feed of a crime that was being committed in a country outside of the civilized world. It was entirely by chance. It was the most gut-wrenching scene I ever saw in my life. That was real. THIS is fantasy. No matter how tasteless and crude, it's still just fantasy. What I saw in that real video feed was a person's life that was deliberately and systematically being destroyed for the entertainment of some silly rich people. I saw the terror in the victim's eyes. There is no comparison here and there shouldn't be. There are terrible things happening in this world, but THIS is not one of them by a longshot.

In this case the rich are getting poorer because they are footing the bill for a technology that has no obvious business model (apart from being paid by ad revenue, again).

Palestinians didn't have to live in constant fear. They were offered a two-state solution over and over again and they always turned it down violently. The individual Palestinian could have left Gaza a long time ago. It wasn't "a prison" as many describe it. The main mistake these people have made was to chose stubborn insistence of being the continuous collective victims of history over a practical solution to individual happiness.
1
Relocating the Palestinians would solve a lot of problems. Trump might be crazy, but he made a proposal there that should be taken seriously.

That's where regulations come in. We don't reward safe. We punish unsafe.
1
It might have something to do with the fact that they were actually persecuted for 2500 years...

The last time I was in the UK was ten years ago. All the waiters and waitresses in London's restaurants were from Poland and other EU countries. I am sure that many of those restaurants are closed now. ;-)

There is no human right to reconstruction if you lose a war that you started. That's a generosity that was rarely extended in history and that does not have to be extended now.

Gaza has a real estate value of approx. $10-20 billion. That's a trivial amount of money these days.

What is obscene about removing women and children from an unlivable rubble heap? Please explain in detail.

@ You don't know how many Germans got displaced after WW II? Dudess, you need to pay more attention in school in your next life. In this one you turned yourself into the equivalent of a root vegetable by not paying any attention. Hint: Depending on estimates it's somewhere in the range of 10-20 million. Okay? It's all freely available knowledge. You just have to want it.

@ Hallo Schatzi! Wie geht es Dir denn so? Hast Du noch alle Tassen im Schrank? Ich glaube eher nicht weil Du so viel Scheisse redest wie ein Klaerwerk in einer Woche verarbeiten muss. :-)
1
@ That's cool, kiddo. I left the world a better place by designing one of the central components of one of the world's largest high energy physics detectors so your kids can learn more about the nature of the physical vacuum and the universe at large. And what did you do with your life other than talking nonsense about the displacement of Germans after WW II? ;-)

The plan here is not the plan. That the Palestinians have to be removed from Gaza was probably already agreed on by Israelis a year ago. The only question was always how. Trump is merely providing the political cover. And Ukraine... well, if that Ukraine minerals deal is actually going to be signed, then it means the US will provide continued and maybe even stronger support in the past. Trump simply needed a political cover himself because he is basically reversing his promise to his own voters about not involving the US further in Ukraine.

The state of Israel persecutes these acts as ordinary crimes and, if they are organized, as acts of terrorism. That's no more and no less than what it is doing against Hamas, right now.

Not even the ICC charges anybody for talk.

Gaza is real estate. It's nearly worthless, blood soaked land. The total monetary value, right now, is on the order of maybe $10-20 billion. Developed it could be worth a hundred times as much.
1
New homes are going to be rebuilt, by the righteous owners of the land. Americans. ;-)

More terrible than the images of October 7? This is a phantasy no different from a Marvel superhero movie. The October 7 images are showing real terror.
1
Nice myth you got there. How many more people have to die so you can keep telling it?
1
Nobody calls it that. Not even in the Arab World.
1
It must be opposite day where you live. ;-)
1
Harder than on October 7?

The EU is doing just fine without the UK. There are no empty shelves and it's not lacking waiters, nurses and doctors, either. ;-)

But in this case he made the only realistic proposal. Everybody was thinking it, of course, but nobody had the courage to say it out loud.
1
Funniest thing I have ever seen with Trump in it. The man has a talent to entertain, you got to give him that.
1
I managed to become a physics PhD with undiagnosed ADHD. If anything it made my life more exciting. :-)
1
Why does the second state have to be in Gaza? How did that idea work out for everybody, but especially the Palestinians? Do you know anybody who is happy about the status quo?
1
There was no America while native Americans were using this land at the level of a copper age culture. All the value came with the settlers. You may not like that, but it's a trivial fact.
1
There are no legitimate indications that Trump's voters are conscious, either. That doesn't mean there aren't serious consequences. Quite to the contrary.
1
Being free and broke is certainly better than just broke, but it is not better than not being broke. ;-)
1
There is no "home" in Gaza. Having a home means having security and love. The people in Gaza only have insecurity and hate.
