If you want communism, then you need to go to a communist country. ;-)

Housing is still reasonable affordable... in areas where nobody wants to live. It's the old "location, location, location" problem that plagues home owners and renters alike.

The alternative is to force the owners to rent them out. I don't think that kind of law will pass the US Supreme Court.

Corporations own less than 1% of the total housing stock in the US. It is not a real problem, at least not outside of some areas where the number is much higher.

@JackCollins-r4r Those are all counted in the corporate numbers. Technically a lender does own your property if you haven't paid back most of your loan, yet, but that doesn't count because they will not evict you as long as you are paying. They can't raise rent on you, either. Seriously, the problem here are NOT the corporations. The problem are the boomers. What we are seeing right now is a giant wealth transfer from the young to the old. The tragedy is that it doesn't make most of the elderly rich, either, because it is not on a one-by-one basis. It's just the result of an aging population where the elderly are outnumbering the young. The US could solve all of this with immigration and by building low cost housing, but it is again the egotism of the elderly which prevents both solutions. You will simply have to wait for the boomers and their offspring to disappear the natural way and then housing will become cheap, again. That is going to happen towards the end of the 21st century.

Sounds good, but no such law will pass the US Supreme Court. Nor should it.

Homelessness is not illegal and never will be. Sleeping outside is becoming illegal in many areas. And why would it not be? It causes a slew of problems for the homeless, cities and everybody who lives in areas where the homeless congregate. If you are homeless, please go to a shelter.

Capitalism is about the control of the means of production. Your home is your contribution to YOUR productivity. If you want somebody else to provide it to you, then you will have to pay that person for the service.
