The US hasn't been an unreliable partner. It is simply asking Europe to pay part of the bill for its defense. We ended WW I for you, we ended WW II for you and now you are not even willing to pay the cost to prevent WW III. Guys, you need to grow up over there. I am a left leaning liberal, by the way and I hate Trump. But among the few things that Trump got right was his demand that ALL NATO countries step up. Some of the smaller ones are, but Germany in particular is still playing dumb and doesn't want to pay the piper. It has to stop.

Government debt is meaningless. Europe still needs to learn that lesson. It is literally destroying itself with austerity.

As much as I dislike Trump as a human being, he did tell the Germans the truth: it is time to step up to the plate and to defend the free world that they are profiting off. Freedom is not free. It has to be paid for in blood and coin. Nobody would be upset if Germany would at least spend the coins.

You are being shown the difference between a good and a bad loser. ;-)

Germany has twice the GDP of Russia. It has far better military technology and can afford to buy even better tech from the US. Germany alone could easily defeat Russia in a conflict IF it decided to be prepared for one.

Germany has five times the GDP of Poland and more than twice its population. Germany and Poland have the exact same security interest: to contain Russia. Germany owes Poland a big one and one way to repay that debt is to take a central role in NATO. Moreover, Europe, in totality, has approx. 80% of the GDP of the United States. There is no reason why it can't spend at least $400 billion a year on defense. It would create a lot of very good jobs in addition to making the world far more safe for everybody.

@s.g2068 Yes, and as you can see it is struggling. GDP means that you have money. :-)

We are not afraid of any country to invoke article 5. We simply want everybody to pay their fair share. Some do, some don't. Germany in particular does not. It has to try at least twice as hard.

Dude, making ammunition creates lots and lots of really well paying jobs. European politics has gone mad with this austerity phantasy. One can not starve oneself rich. It has never worked and it isn't working now. Start the presses and Europe will be much better off in five years than it is now.
