Yes, large corporations will always have everything they need. They educate most of their employees themselves, already.

What do we need ports for? So we can install Christmas tree lighting on our desks. Ideally a computer today should not need ANY ports. Not even a charging port. OK, maybe that's still one bridge too far. But beyond that... really? Why not demand a serial, a parallel port and a SCSI port on every new machine... somebody, somewhere has a computer museum that has the appropriate peripherals... :-)

That would certainly be a problem for some of the landlords.

Is that why you want 100W incandescent light bulbs back? Those were among the few devices that were designed that way.

You don't have the schematics of your cars, either. Absolutely nobody gives you the source code in the engine electronics of your car. All you can do is to replace the entire box with an OEM version of the same box.
1
It does? Only if you are running some really poorly written software. Skype used to keep computers awake and so did Facebook. That's not a Mac or a Windows problem. That's a Skype and Facebook problem.

What isn't? Have you been to the mall, lately? I have. It was FULL. I mean... it was FULL to the brim.

@PhosHodosLogos You don't want to be the next Tesla. He was a crazy guy with little understanding of science. We have thousands of people who are just as good as Einstein, if not considerably better, but the problems have gotten much harder in physics.
1
@PhosHodosLogos I was merely responding to the nonsense you wrote about Tesla and Einstein. Innovation is just fine. That you are not part of it is not my problem.
1
@PhosHodosLogos Don't write nonsense and I will not respond by dressing you down.
1
@PhosHodosLogos I don't have Tourette's. Sorry, but my level is closed to you.

If the increase in the value of a property outweighs the loss of the rent, then not renting out the property does make sense, especially since a used property deteriorates quickly and needs constant and expensive upkeep. One can make similar arguments for all of the above. These are not "beliefs". These are simply counterintuitive economic realities. Should these realities change "one day", then the people who will be facing the new realities will simply adapt to them. If "one day" a toaster made in America will return a decent profit, then there will be a toaster made in America the next day. Until then there simply won't.

The catch is that the order is limited by the current laws and there is currently no law that regulates the right to repair. Until Congress acts this is a paper tiger.

Who said that these things are not patented?

Or... you could have bought a macbook. I have one from 2010. It has a new SSD (the 2nd), a new battery (the 3rd) and an old version of OS_X. Still works like a charm.

@ I didn't pay for status. I paid for higher quality hardware that didn't die like the cheap laptop I had before (the cooling failed after less than three years, probably because of the heat pipe). I paid for a better screen and and overall much better user experience. How much more did I pay? Probably less than $500 more. In other words, I didn't save myself into another nightmarish hardware headache. ;-)

He says he has business to take care of. :-)

I doubt that Apple is sweating this. Your point is not valid. As soon as you pay money for the hardware you can do with it whatever you please. Of course, if you manipulate the device in any way not consistent with ordinary use, then the warranty is gone.

Like what did they get? Among the highest level of personal income in the US? What's there not to like?

Similar schematics do not mean that the device hasn't been upgraded. There are many CPU chips that have retained exactly the same footprint and pinout but have been greatly upgraded over the years. Same for memory chips. 90+% of the world's operational amplifiers have had the same pinout for the last 40-50 years, but there is absolutely no comparison in performance between the first and the latest kinds of these devices.
1
@timemasterhms There is no IP value in schematics. They can be reconstructed from the PCBs and the datasheets. So what do you need them for?

OK, if you want to save the world, do NOT have kids. That's biggest damage you will ever do. Do NOT build a new house. Do NOT fly jets. Do NOT drive a car. Do NOT use an AC. Do NOT buy a big screen tv. It uses dozens of times as much materials as your phone. If you can't come up with a better way to save the world than keeping an old phone 2 years longer, then you are simply completely ignorant about how much damage you are really doing.

I click on every ad, knowing that it creates several cents to several dollars worth of damage to the advertiser. ;-)

I have a more than ten year old PC that works great. My phone is now five years old and it works fine. I have no idea what you are talking about. Product quality is better than ever.
