Time to get off the internet for you, then.

@rvb-if5id See, there is your problem.

I have a five your old phone and it works just fine.

Without an act of Congress that order has no teeth.

@ltfringr Yes, it does exist, but it doesn't work well enough, either. Why does it not work? Because nothing in life comes for free.

Don't buy these tractors. Easy.

@nhifuu Perfectly fine hardware.

Tesla does OTA upgrades on millions of vehicles.

The manufacturer has no obligation to sell anything to you. With equipment that requires a certain level of product safety they would actually be crazy if they did.

@Warren1814 Yes, and everybody has to pay the rent and buy shoes for their kids. And, yes, in theory I could sell you everything I make at cost, for approx. one month. After that I would be too weak from hunger to deliver. I do agree that there are abusive business models, but that has to be taken care of by more general means than to prescribe certain product features. If a company has created a monopoly for themselves, which may be the case with John Deere, then the regulators have to come in and break it up.

Without IP there will be no innovation. A manufacturer can't invest millions into a product only to have it copied without repercussions the next day.

Nothing stops you from reverse engineering their software. You have the right to do that. Of course you couldn't actually sell a product that uses the reverse engineered software.

The American god only serves rich people.

Depends on the phrasing of the law. If it was too onerous, I would stop selling my products there in an instance. A tiny bit of profit is not worth major hassle.

@pacefka The law was not restricted to farming products, the way I understand the video. My comment is therefor in general for other products, including the industrial kinds that I used to design in the past. Having said that, it just occurred to me that the law may have run afoul of the interstate commerce clause because of that. But that's a different discussion.
