I am not a programmer, but can code a little bit better than many people in my area of expertise. And this does help me. But I am afraid I would not learn those few things I can do if I did not have obligatory exposure to programming at school. None of those thing were learnt at school, but that exposure taught me that programming is easy enough to skill when needed.
