So much fail in this comment thread:
Operation Dragonfire, the sting to set up Norinco and Polytech, concluded two years after Chinese guns and ammo were banned by executive order by the Clinton's in 1994. Therefore you can't blame that as the reason they were banned since they already were.
Second, unless you live out on the woods and build everything from scratch then you are supporting China in one form or another. Get used to it. Since we have to give our money to China I'd rather get something out of it that I genuinely want which is their guns and ammo. Like another said, their arms if imported again wouldn't even be a blip on the radar considering the billions made in deals by mainstream products YOU buy everyday.
Third, another poster pointed out their shotguns. The only reason they have remained legal is because no one really wants them. There are already tons of shotgun manufacturers that are cheap enough as it is nor are they in great demand to begin with. They have had zero effect on the industry, a statistical zero. The main gun things people want from China are cheap ammo, good AK's, other Combloc clones, and their original stuff. There is a shortage of Combloc surplus hence the rising prices that China could fix.
Fourth, the only things we can get from China as mentioned are shotguns, optics, and rails. Pretty much non-essential firearms accessories. Everything else is banned.
To the person who said they dislike them because all they make are unlicensed copies, do you dislike every AR that isn't a Colt or Armalite? Do you dislike non-Russian AK's? Do you dislike non-Belgian FAL's? Non-German G3's? Non-Colt 1911's? I could go on. Lots of companies make unlicensed copies of guns. After 20 years the patent expires so anyone can copy the original design. China hasn't copied anything firearm-wise that is under 20 years old that hundreds of other companies, unlicensed by the way, have been doing themselves. Why do they get a pass but China doesn't? I am merely pointing out your hypocrisy. Also China has made lots of their own gun and ammo designs so the fact you made such a rubbish statement demonstrates how ignorant you are.
So let the Chinese guns in and fuck the fudd's.

DreamingFlurry Because money, logistics, and training are things that hamper widespread adoption of the latest tech. The U.S. was lucky to be an ocean away from the major powers and have the manpower/industrial base to standardize on a semi-auto rifle, a luxury no other major power had as they were all confined in close proximity to each other so different priorities with less money being an important factor had to be taken into account.
Not only that, artillery, airpower, and tanks kill more effectively and in mass than your standard infantry rifle so it makes more sense to invest more money in to those than your typical infantry squad.
To your last point, bolt action's are indeed obsolete as GENERAL ISSUE weapons but for a sniper, a specialist role, then bolt action make sense since they are for long range, precise shots from cover, not slugging it out in general combat like the regular infantry would.

Marcus Hagey Because people think it is the ONLY rifle to own and anything else is a waste of time. Really? Like the AR is all there is when it comes to rifles? There are tons of rifle designs out there that are just as good if not better. And every time a new rifle comes out the same dumbass response is "what can it do that an AR can't". I don't know how about NOT being an AR because it is not the end-all, be all of systems plus not everyone is infatuated with the AR. People automatically assume the new rifle is supposed to be an "AR killer" but how about it is freedom of choice to choose something different. Based on that logic there should not be a Burger King, Wendy's, etc. because McDonald's. Or Dodge and Chevy don't need to exist because Ford was first. What is wrong with choice?
Owning one right now it is my LEAST favorite gun to shoot especially with all the hype of how GREAT it is. That's right. I like shooting my AK, SIG-556, Galil, AUG, Tavor, FAL, G3, M14, Vz-58, and countless others much better. I will give credit to the 20" model that is nice to shoot but the carbine not so much.
And the only reason the AR is still in service is because of patriotism and the military does not want to invest the money in finding something else or training new troops but hey it would still be cheaper than buying a new missile, drone, or jet fighter that we love spending massive amounts of money on.
