  23. Ever since the early years of his reign, Putin has made no secret of his bitterness over the Soviet collapse, which he has always viewed as a Russian defeat. In 2005, when he famously referred to the disintegration of the USSR as “the biggest geopolitical catastrophe of the century,” he stressed that it was a tragedy for “the Russian people” and the millions of Russians who suddenly found themselves living beyond Russia’s borders in newly independent countries such as Ukraine. Putin went even further in 2021, lamenting the fall of the USSR as “the collapse of historical Russia under the name of the Soviet Union.” In other words, he regards the entire Soviet era as a continuation of the Czarist Russian Empire, and sees the settlement of 1991 as anything but final. Putin’s sense of historical injustice has led to an unhealthy obsession with Ukraine, which he insists is an inherent part of historical Russia that has been subjected to artificial separation. He is fond of claiming that Ukrainians are in fact Russians (“one people”), and took the unusual but revealing step in July 2021 of publishing a lengthy essay arguing against the legitimacy of Ukrainian statehood. This fixation has been further fueled by fears that the emergence of a democratic Ukraine could serve as a catalyst for similar changes inside Russia itself. Putin remains haunted by the pro-democracy uprisings that swept Central Europe in the late 1980s while he was a young KGB officer in East Germany, and views modern Ukraine’s embrace of democracy as a direct threat to his own authoritarian regime. It is no coincidence that in the buildup to last year’s invasion, Putin began referring to Ukraine as an intolerable “anti-Russia.” Over the past 13 months of full-scale war, Putin’s imperial objectives in Ukraine have become increasingly evident. He has compared his invasion to the eighteenth century imperial conquests of Russian Czar Peter the Great, and has repeatedly spoken of returning historical Russian lands while attempting to annex four partially occupied Ukrainian regions representing almost 20% of the war-torn country. Meanwhile, his army has imposed brutal policies of russification throughout occupied Ukraine, complete with summary executions, forced deportations, the suppression of Ukrainian national symbols, and widespread use of torture against anyone deemed a potential opponent of Russian rule.

  71. this guy Rafael is a self-absorbed narcissist who likes posing in front of the camera. Extremely unsympathetic. The whole conversation doesn't offer much in terms of content; it's superficial small talk. 4 reasons are given - Saving money through less taxes - In Russia there would be more and more beautiful women - somehow his freedom is restricted by the American passport . the Christian values Serbian passport is ranking #37 and Russian passport #51 of the most powerful ones in the world - based on destinations where you are free to travel. USA passport is #7 The christian familiy values are used very often by the russian propaganda puppets. They want to make the russian people believe that in the West we have every day LGBT parades - we are ruled by men in high heels and so on and so forth. Complete gnonsense, but for the russian old generation and some brainwashed dudes the propaganda works. Yound russians know it better but have no voice and are suppressed. Government is making more and more laws to put LGBT in a corner. Of course, there are not more or less LGBT in Russia than in other countries, but they have to hide it more and more and go into the underground. These lies work for the old and mid-age generation, but not for the young. Due to over-aged population, brain-drain, loss in the war...of course Russia is making promotion for heading to Russia and get their citizenship...it becomes serious now, they are de-populating themselves. Yes - because of all these reasons there are more women then men - just statistics. No one with a little bit of common sennse would move to Russia at the moment. No one know how long Putin will stay in power, who is coming next - will it be worse or better, investments impossible due to war and every month new laws, tax increases, price increases, ruble desaster, possible mobilization etc pp Holy shit - Putin ruins the country on the biggest scale the world has ever seen since Germany 80 years ago

  75.  @Натали-ц2ф  The German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact (full name: Non-Aggression Treaty between Germany and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) or called the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact after its signatories, is also known as the Hitler-Stalin Pact. It was a treaty between the German Reich and the Soviet Union, signed on August 24, 1939 (dated August 23, 1939) in Moscow by Reich Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop and the Soviet People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs Vyacheslav Molotov in the presence of Josef Stalin (as CPSU -General Secretary de facto leader of the Soviet Union) and the German ambassador Friedrich-Werner Graf von derschulenburg was signed and published. The pact guaranteed the German Reich Soviet neutrality for the prepared attack on Poland and in the event of a possible entry into the war by the Western powers. A secret additional protocol “in the event of a territorial-political reorganization” included most of Poland and Lithuania in the German sphere of interest, and eastern Poland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Bessarabia in the Soviet sphere. After the Wehrmacht occupied the western Polish areas during the attack on Poland and the Red Army then militarily occupied eastern Poland, closer cooperation between the two states was agreed with the German-Soviet Border and Friendship Treaty of September 28, 1939 and the areas of interest were adapted to the new conditions. In addition to reaffirming economic cooperation, accompanying, partly secret agreements specified the division of Poland, the Baltic states, this time with Lithuania, joined the Soviet Union and stipulated the transfer of the German, Ukrainian and Belarusian minorities from the affected areas into their own sphere of influence. With the attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the German Reich broke these two treaties.

  144.  @kandvital  You are obsessed with the idea that the rest of the world is constantly concerned with you. In the general perception, Russia had become a country that got something like a democracy. Russia has opened up, many Western companies have come, of course to make profit; but they have also brought living standards, well-paid jobs and prosperity to Russia. There was more and more trade - oil and gas, of course, our money for your raw materials. Everything was quite okay. That Putin and his gang put most of the money into their own pockets instead of fighting poverty in the countryside is your internal issue and none of our business. Why do you think that western propaganda always shows the old stereotypes? This is what your Russian propaganda shows you. Putin has to maintain an enemy image to keep the population together. After decades of normal relations, suddenly there are Nazis and Satanists everywhere... where did they suddenly come from? The systematic destruction of any opposition, expulsion of independent journalists, exclusively state television. Russian propaganda wants you to believe that there are LGBT parades here every day and all that nonsense. Do you believe it? Your leaders are clinging to power with all their might and have created a system in which things are only going backwards for Russia. People get arrested for their opinion, no freedom of speech. I am from Germany and believe me I know what it was about in WWII. It took us nearly a generation to understand what Nazi Germany did to the world and to understand that we were the evil aggressor. It might also take a generation or two for you to understand what Russia is now doing.

  154. half way through - this clip is again feeding the victim-offender-reversal Bad western MSM propaganda puts poor Russia in a bad light. That is by far too simple. Who started with propaganda years ago...who is feeding the people with anti-west propaganda since long time? It is Putin and his gang. Western country were not even interested in this story - it was just about doing business, buying natural ressources from Russia for good money; in the eyes of the West Russia was not a threat any more. Russia made itself a threat - so you cannot calll Russia the victim now. NATO was a dead organization; nearly no country fulfilled their limits for cash in; most countries did not see any reason for spending money on military...there were bigger challenges in life. The attack/invasion of a sovereign state based on these nazi, bio-lab, we-must-attack-first-because-they-planned-to-attack-us LIES was one of the biggest mistakes in history. Putin thought he can take Ukraine ia a week... the country which is not yet in NATO. He planned the invasion for many many years. Russian propaganda says they want to liberate...but big surprise they are fighting against the occupant instead of being happy to be liberated. Some common sense please. And It was a a big revitalisation of NATO, more united and bigger than ever. Don´t make others responsible for the situation. Russian Rulers have chosen the path and the people partly agree and partly not. Some are brainwashed by Russian State TV playing 24/7 nonsense, some are just warmongers, some are dumb and others are too afraid of speaking out, because Russia became a police state...a wrong word and they come after you. I am afraid that the war will go on for a long time, because Putin cannot step back without losing his power and Ukraine is defending their land. The dying will go on...both sides

  159.  @marias5088  ah, the old song? Russia had to attack because they have to defend themselves against the aggression and threat of NATO? What was NATO a year ago? An organization that had fallen asleep. Every country was busy with itself. Most countries have cut their military budgets to the minimum. Many thought that NATO was superfluous and that the military was no longer needed in the heart of Europe. Who really believes that NATO or anyone wanted to attack Russia - a country with 6000 nuclear missiles? Only an idiot would believe that. It is not about someone wanting to attack Russia, it is about fame, money and power of old men. Putin has grown old, has imperialist dreams of the day before yesterday. He has had absolute power for 20 years. yes, The West is getting closer, he almost lost Belarus; he just managed to prevent that. Is it possible to force independent states to cut themselves off from the West? People want to improve their standard of living and they do, see Poland, Baltic countries, Romania etc - they are all better off in the EU, in peace and partnership with the West. Putin could not bear this, became more and more bitter. He wanted to immortalize himself in the history books. Crimea was so easy to take, sending mercenaries to Donbas was so easy...he thought it would go on; that he could steal even more. In his opinion Nato and the whole West is weak, nobody can do without his Russian gas and oil. But he was very wrong and now he can't go back. He continues until the end...what that looks like is not foreseeable. In the meantime, people are suffering, especially the young generation. It becomes again conditions like in times of the cold war. Small children are brought up to be good soldiers. Propaganda runs all day on television - East against West etc. It is so sad
