After Soviet Union collapsed, Russia had been very keen to join the west, what Russia got from west and US?? nothing but hostility and blockage. it shows to the west, it does not matter if you are "democracy" or not, as long as your are not obedient or would be a defacto slave or tool (as India now), you are their enemy. It is the same west and US treat Russia and China, and this pressure pushed China and Russia closer, with nuke strength of Russia and economic power of China, all west and US efforts will fail .
