China real target is not Ladakh, since there is nothing, no much territorial dispute with India, China real goal is to take back South Tibet, however, since Lakaka is only 400 km from Delhi, India had to defend it. for this, China put force in Ladakh, to draw much of the India military to the area, in real war, first by cut off Siriguli corridor and with mainly force to defeat the 4th army of India in that area to take back South Tibet.
