It is obvious that the US will never be India's real partner, ally, or even a true friend. Currently, the US only uses India as a tool to counter China, but this strategy has not been effective. Since the founding of the Quad 20 years ago, nothing substantial has been achieved in terms of countering China. India has not gained any real benefits, only receiving verbal assurances from all sides involved. This lack of progress is why India has turned back to Russia. However, Russia is also unlikely to provide significant help to India. Beyond viewing India as a good traditional customer for oil and weapons, Russia has little to gain from its relationship with India.
India often boasts about being the "largest democracy" in the world, which makes it appear to be part of the so-called "democracies alliance" led by the US. However, India is also a member of BRICS and the SCO, both of which include Russia and China, the two biggest adversaries of the US. Furthermore, in pursuit of economic opportunities during the Ukraine war, India ignored US calls for sanctions against Russia and continued buying cheap Russian oil. This clearly shows that India is not, in any meaningful sense, a member of the Western alliance led by the US.
