Both US and India recognize TW is a part of China, the people in TW cannot decide all by themselves but need the whole country, in US civil war, all the South wanted to leave US and tried to decide for themselves, Lincoln lead the north defeated them and kept the integrity of the US and today Lincoln is considered the greatest US president, or we would not see an intact US today.

TW is a part of China, 3. the People's Republic of China represents whole China" , this is the basic 3 principles of "One China Policy" for both US and India, and every other countries which has formal diplomatic relationship with China. If you do not agree with "One China" policy, you may feel free to cut off all diplomatic relationship with China, but before that, please honor what you had agreed.
