at the same time, India remain the number 1 weapon importer in the world. the money made by India from exporting is far far less than its spending on importing weapons, a good example is Brahmos and Rafale, India sold Brahmos (first and only time) with $300 million, half it went to Russia, only $150 million left, but Rafale cost $250 million each, so $150 million is not enough to buy a single intact Rafale, may be only enough to buy a pair of wings for it, maybe plus a tail as a bargain.
all India military army navy and airforce all want to buy weapons from other countries not buy from make in India, many reasons for that, in war, it is them to risk their lives to fight, you cannot give junks made in India for their precious lives while you just stay in an AC room to watch, so give them the best weapon in the world is not too much to ask for them. 2nd, it is their high officials main income from kickbacks which is not as much as buy from domestic weapons supplies.
