Part of a country cannot decide if they can get independent, no others but US history showed it, theoretically, so called the United States of American, are formed by individual state voluntarily therefore should get independent by their whish, that was why the south states claimed independence and left US, however, Lincoln would not allow it, and lead US army defeated the south and kept US an intact country, so Lincoln is considered the greatest US president in its history,, , same principle allies to Taiwan.
