Under Modi's leadership, India's economy may soon be surpassed by ASEAN countries. Currently, India's GDP in 2023 stands at $3.73 trillion, while ASEAN countries collectively amount to $3.718 trillion. ASEAN countries are experiencing rapid growth, exemplified by the construction of the high-speed rail in Laos by China, which was initially designed for freight transportation with a capacity of 0.75 million tons per year. This rail system aimed to reach 1 million tons by 2040; however, it exceeded expectations by reaching 1.6 million tons in its first year and 2.6 million tons in the second year, 2023. Presently, it is being expanded to accommodate up to 6 million tons per year. With this trend, ASEAN countries, which are part of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) treaty with China, are poised to surpass India's GDP in the near future.
