In 1962, the Chinese army occupied the small town of Bomdila, which was situated at the rear of the Indian army, cutting them off and surrounding them from Sela onwards with about two divisions surrounded by the Chinese, with no further defense line from there to Tezpur. Nehru addressed the nation by AIR stating, "Our hearts go out with the Assamese." This statement frightened the people of Assam, as they believed the central government had abandoned them. Consequently, bankers burned Indian currency, and Tezpur government officials fled. This illustrates the severity of the situation Nehru faced against the Chinese army. However, Modi's handling of similar situations is even more concerning. While Nehru at least put up a fight, Modi did not even dare to mention China's name during the 2020 incident.
