I'm in the exact same boat with Linux videos, when I've got free time I usually watch the furthest possible thing I can possibly find, lately it's been a lot of skit comedy.

I use the OBS systray icon incredibly frequently, I start recording using a hotkey and it gives me a visual indicator that I'm recording, also it can be disabled if you find it annoying. General -> System Tray -> Uncheck Enable

@DistroTube If I had a dollar for every time someone said that after I made that video

It shouldn't be called GNU/Linux then, if the userland is all that matters it should just be called GNU
78
Did someone say anime

I've found that small projects tend to be very receptive to any feedback I bring up in a video, obviously there are times when these are more to do with user preference where I can understand why a project wouldn't do something but when I bring up actual flaws in the design I've noticed that most devs are very willing to change what they're doing. The problem with large projects is that so many different people are telling you so many different things, that they need to filter out what's actually important.

5:41 On the point about video quality it's not just comparable its identical to way you upload right now video compression isn't being done on LBRYs side so what you upload is what you get

@jasonbagshaw5345 my infinite money printer?

I've been using Arch since the first day that I switched to Linux and I've loved it but I had spent months doing research on Linux before doing the switch. Also RTFM is not good advice for someone who doesn't know how to read the docs
21
If you can do Gentoo on the PS2 you can do it on any ewaste
21
Right now I'd be happy to just not be recording in the same room as my bed, I can't even slide my chair properly out from under my desk. I'm interested to see what you'll be able to get done with a proper dedicated space.
20
Hey look it's me
18
@terrydaktyllus1320 It's not pretending, there's other places to find video topics then on YouTube. If something is topical it's likely going to be on places like Reddit, or someone will tell me about it on Discord (there's a lot of audience overlap) or maybe it'll be on a news site. I don't know why you'd think I was lying about that, I've shown my YouTube recommendations a ton of times on stream
13
There's nothing I didn't already know about in this video but it's good to hear this from someone with a channel that's performing well.
12
The YouTube algorithm is really good at pushing the content that you click on Edit: As humor is hard to understand, I'm legally obligated to tell you this is a joke

Enjoy your time off man, I know you're feeling about vacations. I took about 5 days off over Christmas and that was the longest amount I've taken off in years but even so it was only a half vacation and I was still working on other things

People generally don't want to question their beliefs

@DistroTube hopefully Linux phones become decent sooner rather than later
6
I've been using Arch Linux since my first day of leaving Windows and at least for me that is due in part to people like you and Luke Smith.
6
You can use the service without giving LBRY your identity, you can't receive rewards from LBRY without verifying your identity, this is to ensure that people don't make hundreds of fake accounts to milk the platform. If you still want to tip without receiving rewards you have to send LBC to your wallet from another source,
6
@AnzanHoshinRoshi that's fair, I don't have a negative a perception of crypto but only time will tell what happens with LBRY
5
Every creator that you watch gets a cut of the premium revenue
5
Maybe if you're listening in a perfect environment you'll notice a significant difference but through a phone with a bit of background noise they sound near identical and that's the way that most people will be consuming content
5
@joshua_lee732 Unless the code has expired anyone can use it
4
It's gaining steam, it's not a major competitor yet but more and more people are joining
4
@Cryptoniac Maybe I should re-watch Love Live
4
Twitch isn't a video on demand platform though
4
szymonmochort But computers as powerful as it are
4
9:53 Someone didn't watch the video before commenting
3
Cutting off all my notifications is probably a good idea when I'm making videos, I waste a bit too much going through notifications and such when I should be working
3
@mountain-dewer9700 Honestly it doesn't even get that cold here, I'm just bad at dealing with anything below blisteringly hot
3
Why not? If you just don't want to use another platform that's cool but is that the reason?
3
@DistroTube notifications are a work in progress currently
3
@Glizzster Yo
3
@nikolaos9175 You're not giving the LBC back to LBRY you're locking it until you decide to unlock it.
3
@Dermot McCann I'm a guy who sits in his room with a webcam, is that supposed to be an insult?
3
It's allowed on the platform but it's tagged as mature, if you don't tag it as mature you can report the content and it can be blocked at the application level. So it's still on available on the blockchain so if someone forks the app and removes the blocklist the content will still be available.
3
I'm not sure what that has to do with situation, you should already be paying taxes
3
You can claim all your tips right now from the CLI tool and the team openly talk about this in the Discord. It just hasn't been setup inside the GUI app.
3
@andrasbiro6604 you're actually not wrong, I could downsize the bed and have much more room
3
@theredtechengineer1480 Either way it's not 1080p
2
I'm in South Australia myself and I haven't really had any problems with videos buffering. I do have 50 down though so that's mainly the reason.
2
@AnimelitReplays LBC isn't a privacy coin, the content will be blocked from the app and you will be found and arrested in due time
2
Please don't use bluray for long term storage, they have horrible cost per GB, redundancy is an absolute logistics nightmare requiring user intervention per disk, and each disk has terrible storage capacity, plus they're incredibly fragile and slight scratches may wipe out half your data. Go buy a second hand computer for cheap, buy some HDD, turn it into a NAS where you have RAIDed the drives and be done with it. Yes the drives wil eventually break but because you've RAIDed as long as you don't have too many drives fail you can replace them and not have to redo another 20 bluray disks
2
@auroradraco9974 exactly
2
If you switching to anything is anything like when I switch to anything a good part of the reason is that it makes good content for the channel
2
That's physically impossible the content on LBRY is not transcoded what you upload is what you get, I'm not saying you're lying, your eyes could be tricking you.
2
If I understand it correctly it can, it's just that the gemini text format is a part of the spec
2
I don't know what this channel even is anymore
2
There are 2 issues with video playback right now, 1: Videos are not transcoded by LBRY so what you upload is what it will be played back as (meaning no selectable quality) 2: The locations of nodes around the world, if you're too far away from nodes or if they're too slow playback will be negatively effected.
2
If you need any help the guys on the LBRY social discord are quite helpful.
2
This is one of the things that not enough people bring up, LBRY is more than just a video platform.
2
@KingZero69 that's in the US, in Australia they're treated identically to stocks
2
@milohoffman274 there is so little space that even using one would be difficult
2
I would recommend mirroring your content on LBRY, it's a decentralized blockchain based media sharing platform with a focus on content freedom, the monetization is based on tipping the cryptocurrency LBC, if you authorize the synching of your channel it will take no extra effort on your part besides occasionally cashing out and selling your tips.
2
Can I just react to this awful color grading
2
@AnimelitReplays It can be blocked from the LBRY app created by the LBRY team but as the source code is open you can fork the app and create one without a blocklist.
1
@patjones8598 lbry doesn't collect the credit card info, it goes through Stripe who will almost certainly have you card info already if you ever used your card online but you can also contact the LBRY team directly.
1
Shopkeeper: We have this relic from 2020, that will be $300
1
@PS3PCDJ correct, that's why no one said it is
1
@kpcraftster6580 literally right now, also stop taking a comment so seriously
1
@kpcraftster6580 In my experience using the platform, recommendations have always aligned with what I watch. Please touch grass, banter is just banter, nothing more
1
@kpcraftster6580 I'm just amused that I get to live in your head rent free
1
@terrydaktyllus1320 It's worked in Wayland for 2+ years
1
@________----------......... currently awesomewm but I need to check out Hyprland again but come next year I'll probably be on plasma Wayland
1
They do it frequently with FloatPlane, so maybe but it's not enforced
1
@dlarge6502 that's not exactly the case, Mac OS was based off of much of the work done within the NeXTSTEP operating system, and what is now known as Cocoa was originally called OpenStep, GNUStep is a free software free implementation of OpenStep
1
He probably just had a hard drive die
1
@clausmartini1074 LBRY Inc and LBRY Foundation are different organisations
1
@clausmartini1074 Nope they actually are, I've been involved with LBRY and LBRY Inc takes a fairly hands off approach with the LBRY foundation. The LBRY foundation is a community run organisation and LBRY Inc is the company that develops the LBRY network.
1
Right now I see LBRY as a good platform to make a bit of extra money.
1
Just right down the binary on paper
1
Don't worry, they're not going anywhere on Windows and MacOS, GNOME missing one just makes it buggy to the user
1
I don't know if it's just the mastodon instance that I'm on but your instance has been blocked by mstdn social, seems like it's time for me to move to another instance as well
1
Why?
1
They seem cheap but the cost per GB is horrible
1
Dtube I see as a potential viable platform but BitChute has kind of marketed itself into a corner. I don't have any problem with the content but there is a very negative idea perception of it. I would like all of the platforms to be viable but LBRY is just doing the best at this moment
1
I'll be watching the situation play out but if this goes south I won't be left holding the bag at the end
1
Cringe
