There were more good reasons to believe that Iraq had WMDs, especially when Saddam himself said after he was captured that he intentionally tried to deceive the world that Iraq possessed them. It was not because of the U.S. that he feared, which he never thought would actually attack Iraq, but because of his fear of Iran.
