  1. Interesting that you said the Falling Leaf is really helpful. I’ve read from other sources that it’s useless in combat, and is good for airshows only. The aircraft is essentially a target without any energy..Watching the J-20, it’s got nothing on the F-22. The F-22 is far more maneuverable. The J-20 doesn’t even have a gun on it. The F-22s RCS is smaller, and the US has been fielding AESA for far longer, its AN/ALR gives it incredible situational awareness, etc. The F-22 has had numerous upgrades so the J-20’s being newer is mute. In fact, the F-22 has had time to mature.

  2. The USA stopped production because at the time it was fighting two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan where the F-22 wasn’t needed for either. They needed the money elsewhere. Despite stoop production, there are more F-22s in service than the J-20, and a 6th gen fighter isn’t that far off. The J-20 doesn’t stand a chance against the F-22. The F-22 has more power, better avionics, situational awareness, sensor fusion, AESA radar, a lower RCS, and it’s been in service long enough to have any bugs worked out. The J-20 doesn’t even have a gun for dogfighting, and India’s Su-30s picked it up on radar. It doesn’t have a chance.

  3.  @bessarion1771  I agree that Gates was wrong, but nonetheless the USA still is way ahead. The rest of the world hasn’t caught up. Russia’s Su-57 is junk. India cited numerous problems with it and didn’t believe it could be fixed without practically starting over. There are none in service, and it’s doubtful that it will have any future, especially with the current sanctions against Russia. China’s J-10 comes nowhere close to the F-22 or even the F-35. Both in quality and numbers China’s Air Force doesn’t stand a chance. A significant portion of the Chinese AF still uses outdated aircraft, and even their next top of line fighter, the Su-35, has shown in recent exercises that it’s a paper tiger, particularly to being jammed. The USA has already tested a 6th gen fighter that reportedly broke numerous records. You can think what you want, but I am not personally too concerned.

  4.  @bessarion1771  Even the Russians were critical of the J-20’s design. You can see in the video that it’s not very maneuverable, it doesn’t have guns for dogfighting, and it’s more of a missile truck than an air superiority fighter. The Indians had many issues with the Su-57, especially concerning its lack of stealth features, engine problems, and had doubts about its avionics. Russia to date hasn’t put into service any jet fighter with AESA radar, which is essential for a 5th gen aircraft, something that the US accomplished over 20 years ago in the F-15C. Plus, only two production versions have built, the first of which crashed, it’s got no export orders, it hasn’t shown the ability to shoot its guns or air to air missiles from internal bays in flight, and there’s much doubt if it has any future. And after noticing how Russia is having difficulty in Ukraine against an Air Force that is outdated and outnumbered, I don’t have much concern about Russia provided any challenges to NATO, let alone the USA. Those are just my thoughts. You can think what you want, but whatever either of us thinks really doesn’t matter.
