@StoltHD Why are you lying? Read the Budapest Memorandum, read it! It says nothing about the USA protecting Ukraine. It says that the US, Uk, and Russia will all respect Ukraine’s sovereignty. The only country that didn’t abide by its terms is Russia.

@notverydarkmagic He’s not being honest. There’s no such promises. In fact, it would make no sense at the time when the Budapest Memorandum was signed. Neither the US or UK were allies of Ukraine, and Ukraine had much closer ties with Russia.

@StoltHD Don’t give me that BS. What’s in an agreement is in an agreement. I used to negotiate contracts and I can tell you that there were probably many drafts discussed before the final version was signed. The Memorandum was signed just three years after the collapse of the USSR. Ukraine and Russia were still closely aligned, and at that time there was no way to predict what would happen ten years later. If anything, the memorandum was an assurance from the UK and US that neither would attack Ukraine. Facts are that both the US and UK abided by its terms, and its only Russia that violated its conditions.

@StoltHD Don’t be a fool. Ukraine is not part of NATO, and there’s no obligation to defend it. There’s no way at that particular time that the public of either the US or UK would support a promise to protect Ukraine. The US and UK both provided assistance. Your original comment was that the US and UK had an obligation to defend Ukraine, which is utter nonsense. Providing assistance is far from defending it. And “providing assistance” is a very vague term. The US provided some assistance like communication equipment and other gear so technically it met its obligations. The US and UK also aren’t going to make empty promises to defend Ukraine unless they mean it.

@StoltHD You read any analysis of the Budapest Memorandum, and they all pretty much sum it it with the following statement: “The signatories of the memorandum pledged to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability of its borders, and to refrain from the use or threat of military force. Russia breached these commitments with its annexation of Crimea in 2014 and aggression in eastern Ukraine, bringing the meaning and value of security assurance pledged in the Memorandum under renewed scrutiny.” You won’t find one credible source that requires the US or UK having to defend Ukraine so stop spreading misinformation.

@StoltHD I have read it. It says nothing about the United States or United Kingdom defending Ukraine. You obviously have a reading comprehension problem.

@StoltHD You’re full of 💩. The memorandum says nothing about the United States or United Kingdom defending Ukraine, nor does it make any sense for either country to since at the time Ukraine was not a close ally of either country. In fact, when the memorandum was signed Ukraine was more closely aligned with Russia. And finally, if you had any common sense there’s no way in hell that Russia would sign any agreement where either the US or UK would have an obligation to defend Ukraine.

@StoltHD You talk as though you’re the only one who has a memory of events over a decade ago. I recall arguing with Ukrainians back then who actually supported Russia. They defended Russia prior to its annexation of Crimea. And again, there’s no way the American or British people would agree to defend Ukraine back then, and Russia for sure wouldn’t sign an agreement that required them to do so.

@StoltHD And you don’t know wtf you’re talking about regarding Iraq. First off, the United States admitted not finding any WMDs. You know very well that a country like Russia would have planted evidence. The US had good reasons to believe Iraq still had WMDs. After all, Saddam himself admitted after he was captured that he tried to deceive the world. It was not the US he feared, because he never thought that the US would actually attack, but because of his fear of Iran. P

@briansmith6862 You read it. There’s absolutely no requirement for the US or UK to defend Ukraine. Prove me wrong and cite exactly the words from the memorandum that you believe otherwise. You can’t and you know it. Stop the spreading of lies and misinformation. Anyone with half a brain would know at that time that the US or UK wouldn’t provide such a guarantee to a country that’s not even an ally.
