⁠⁠ @Chuck_Hooks I wrote to all my Congressmen encouraged them to keep the production run going, and they pretty much all had the same response, which was that the F-22 was wasting defense funds that were needed elsewhere. The F-22 wasn’t needed for either war, and they said we had more important systems to fund. The Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, convinced them that the money was needed for the two wars that the US was in at the time, in Afghanistan and Iraq. The only thing that gave me comfort at the time was knowing that the tooling equipment was being saved in case the production run was reopened. Well, that didn’t happen like we were told. Japan at one time was even willing to help pay the costs to put the F-22 back into production, but that fell apart too.
