We know that the plane was shot down over a part of Ukrainian territory that is controlled by pro-Russia separatists with a Buk surface-to-air missile (SA-11). We know that Russian citizens have increasingly assumed positions of leadership in this separatist group. We know that Russia has supplied these separatists with sophisticated surface-to-air missiles and other heavy weapons. We know that the Russian-led separatists have shot down numerous aircraft in the same time interval. And we know that the missile system used against MH17 requires significant military skill to operate. In short, MH17 would never have been shot down were it not for President Putin's knowing and willing efforts to provoke violent instability in Ukraine.

I say you're wrong. Why would you want to listen to Russia or China, two nations that are trying to take land and sea that doesn't belong to them? And how can you trust Russia with how often it has lied? Quite frankly, Russia has lied so often that it is hard to know when it is being honest.

+Nurit L No they didn't. They could not have planted all the evidence that clearly showed it was a Russian made SAM that shot down the aircraft. Even the wounds the pilots took was shown to have come from the missile. The missile was made from Russia, it took highly quilified people to operate it, and it was launched from a territory that was controlled by the anti-govt. forces. Sorry, but when you add all that up it's easy to point your finger towards Moscow. They're just trying to cover it up and blame it on someone else like they always do. It won't be thr first time Russia has denied it and then later admitted to it, i,e. Korean Air Lines Flight 007.

My point is that Russia broke the INF treaty, and then gets angry at the US for officially backing out of it because of Russia's non-compliance. I know the US has backed out of some treaties, some that I wish it hadn't too. The Paris Climate Accord is a perfect example. I found your list by doing a Google search, and along with the list provides some pretty good reasons. For instance, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. China is not part of the treaty so unless it comes on board I doubt the US will either. Another example would be the Mine-Ban Treaty, or Ottawa Treaty, 1997: "The US is one of 33 states (including Russia, India, and China) that have signed but not ratified the treaty." You'll also find other cases where the US has signed the treaty, but has not yet ratified it. Some treaties are complied with even without such ratification.

@mortvald What missile did the US field in 2002 that broke the treaty? The US destroyed all its intermediate missiles as a result of the treaty. That's compliance. Russia on the other hand built and deployed intermediate missiles, which is non-compliance. It's as simple as that.

@mortvald Yes, the US broke the ABM treaty. It wasn't because of Russia, but it feared rogue states like North Korea. What is the US to do allow North Korea build an ICBM that can strike the US and not defend itself? Russia broke the intermediate missile treaty by having ground missiles that violate the terms of the treaty. Why should the US have to abide by it when Russia wasn't? The two treaties are completely separate and not tied to each other.

@mortvald I get your point. Militarily wise, yes. But the fact is that the US left the INF treaty for two reasons, one being that Russia violated it, and the other being that there were no controls on China's development of intermediate ranged missiles.

Quite honestly, it’s about time there are protests. Putin has for years silenced journalists and any political opposition, he has absolute control of the media to spread lies, he has a paid army of trolls to spread more lies and hate, and for being an ex-KGB agent, he has accumulated a huge mass of wealth, stolen from the Russian people, who he pretends to care about. It’s no wonder he lives in fear of being assassinated by his own people. He’s a conceited and arrogant thug. I hope for the people of Russia that he somehow disappears one day. Until then, the wealth discrepancy between the extreme rich and the rest of the Russian population will only get worse, which by the way, is the world’s worst.

The Isklander -K and the cruise missile the SSC-X-8 are both examples missiles that violate of the treaty. The US hasn't deployed any intermediate missiles so Russia was lying, as usual.

@TheShalalai At least NATO doesn’t invade other countries to try to conquer them, and it doesn’t make up pathetic lies for the conflicts that it gets involved in. You also don’t see NATO intentionally targeting civilians, or committing the horrific atrocities that you see the Russians committing in Ukraine. You also don’t see NATO mobilizing troops in mass, sending them to the front lines with no training, and then having them attack in mass to their deaths. NATO also doesn’t have a paid troll army to spread lies and hate about other countries, and it’s not threatening to use nukes, etc. against other nations. It’s obvious by your comment that you support Russia. If you like it so much, use RuTube instead of YouTube. The Russian economy could use your support.
