I hate war. This is so hard to watch. If Russia considers Ukraine so close to its heart, it shouldn’t be fighting with it. Russia needs to let the Ukrainian people live in peace.

@Dan-Martin It’s still Ukrainian territory, not Russian. If Ukraine wants to give that territory to Russia, it’s up to Ukraine. It’s not up to Russia to forcefully take it.

@Dan-Martin So if the people of Moscow wanted to be Ukrainian you’d be okay with it? I guess the people of Chechnya’s voice didn’t matter either when they wanted independence? How about all those decades when the USSR didn’t allow eastern block nations the right to determine their own fate? As soon as the USSR collapsed they immediately tried to distance themselves from Russia. Don’t be a hypocrite. And if you’re all about people’s rights governing themselves, then Ukraine should be allowed to join NATO without Russia’s crocodile tears. The Ukrainian Constitution requires that the entire nation vote on the referendum, not just the people located in Crimea. The fact that Putin admitted that he lied that the troops weren’t just locals but that the little green men were Russian soldiers all along proves that he knew what Russia did was wrong. You don’t need to lie when you’re in the right.

@Dan-Martin So why is it that Russia is whining about NATO getting closer to its territory when these nations chose to be part of NATO? They weren’t forced, but willfully joined for protection from Russia. What Russia is trying to do is take territory forcefully. Chechnya has long wanted independence. Don’t deny it. Chechnya had never wanted to be incorporated into any Russian-dominated state (be that the empire, USSR, or modern Russia), their independence movement is similar to the other regions that seceded from the USSR when it collapsed, I.e. Estonia, Latvia…)

@Dan-Martin LOL, you’re one visit doesn’t mean crap. It’s well documented how the people of Chechnya have wanted independence. Personally I am glad that they’re under Russia’s rule. Many people from that area are ruthless terrorists. The Boston Marathon bombers are examples. But nonetheless, the people of that region are strongly independent, and have sought their own sovereignty for many decades. Go to video Chechnya-Independence Day Rally for an example. It’s just like how Kazakhstan is a puppet state of Russia. The people there detest Russians. It’s one of the reasons why there have been uprisings. My own nephew went to school in Kazakhstan for two years. He said that Russians are disliked because they put themselves on a pedestal and think they’re better than everyone else. The people from Chechnya don’t like the USA either, as they believe America is anti-Muslim.

@Dan-Martin Don’t have a clue, but it doesn’t matter. If you’re implying that Russia gave it, then once it’s given it no longer belongs to Russia.
1
@Dan-Martin Excuse me? Which nation has over a hundred thousand troops on Ukraine’s border? Who is supporting the separatists in Ukraine to keep the conflict ongoing? If Russia stopped its support, the conflict would be over and the people can finally live in peace.
1
@Dan-Martin I know about the Monroe Doctrine. Those kind of days are long gone. In fact that was around 200 years ago in the early 1800s. For you to justify Russia’s current practices on events hundreds of years ago is ludicrous. Russia has enough territory. It doesn’t need to conquer more. It’s the country that is being hostile, not Ukraine.
1
@Dan-Martin That’s when the Doctrine originated. It’s out of its time.

@Dan-Martin I have no idea why it’s still being sanctioned. There’s a huge Cuban presence in Florida that doesn’t want to support the current regime is the only thing that I can think of. However, it’s not being threatened with an invasion like Ukraine is with soldiers massed on a border.

@Dan-Martin And why can’t the USA do business with whoever it pleases? It’s under no obligation to do business with Cuba, especially since it’s been a long-time adversary of the US. Russia has always used its influence, especially in the eastern Baltics and Asia. I don’t mind Russia having influence in various nations, but I don’t think it’s right that it attacks them for its own claims.
