The US should send a carrier to lurk outside of North Korea. Maybe they will reconsider sending their soldiers to Ukraine.

I support helping Ukraine, but it’s misleading to say that sending Ukraine free weapons benefits the US. Giving away anything is not lucrative. Otherwise all countries would be doing it all the time. Those monies could be spent on other projects where the funds are more needed, both for military purposes and non military purposes.

@heathermccall8015 Pure American from Encinitas, CA. I bet before the war you were a common European who criticized the US for getting involved in international affairs too much, right? Perhaps if our fellow NATO allies spent more on defense like the US recommended you wouldn’t be begging the US to help so much. You think that the US should pay for your own negligence of not properly funding your defense. I support helping Ukraine, but the Europeans who act as though we owe it to Ukraine is BS. The US has no obligation to help Ukraine, and yet the US has still provided just as much military aid as all other NATO countries combined. And yet you’re still here acting as though the US hasn’t done enough. Gripe about your own country instead of looking for the US to protect you. The US has global obligations, not just Europe. And Europe has some of the wealthiest countries in the world that shouldn’t be depending on the US for protection.

@karilang9377 How exactly does the U.S. save $40 billion by giving it away? That’s absurd. Not all weapons are just sitting around unused. For instance, the US had to build a new factory to keep up with Ukraine’s use of artillery. We also working with Japan to build more Patriot missiles in Japan. We’re working on Poland to build a Javelin facility. Those GLMRS, Patriot missiles, Javelins, etc. are coming right off the production lines and being sent to Ukraine. It’s hilariously how our European allies are so willing to give away US weapons. If they listened to the advice the U.S. gave them for over ten years to spend more on defense, less on Russian oil, Ukraine wouldn’t be so dependent on US aid. And yes, I do support helping Ukraine, but I don’t appreciate people who spread misinformation saying that giving away weapons saves the US money. That’s ridiculous.

@ronblack7870 The US never made them give up their nukes. They signed the memorandum, they didn’t want nukes on their territory, especially after the Chernobyl disaster, they didn’t want them because they didn’t have the resources or money to properly maintain them, and they never had independent control of them or their access codes. The reason why the US wanted the memorandum was to prevent the nukes from getting into terrorists hands. The US also helped Russia dispose of some of its nukes with our own money because after the collapse of the USSR the Russians didn’t have the funds to dispose of them themselves.

I support Israel. “Historians and archaeologists agree that the northern Kingdom of Israel existed by ca. 900 BCE and the Kingdom of Judah existed by ca. 850 BCE. “ Russia has committed some horrific atrocities against innocent people, and it invaded Ukraine for no justifiable reason. Israel was attacked, and it been attacked for years by Hamas and Hezbollah with thousands of rockets launched towards Israeli cities. I don’t know of any other country that would have been so patient before going after the terrorists. Israel has given land to try to keep peace. Russia on the other hand takes, takes, and takes more land. The two countries are completely different. Russia is run by an authoritarian who will never give up power while Israel is run by a person who was voted into office.

What’s hilarious is that when the US advised its allies for over a decade to increase their military spending they told us to mind our own business and that nobody made the US the world’s policeman. Now they’re begging for US help, and trying to say we need to help even more even though we’ve provided just as much military aid as all the other countries combined. Clowns.

@traumflug That is total bs. The monies come from US taxpayers. US taxpayers are funding Ukraine’s war effort. It’s not a debt that’s totally ignored. If these funds weren’t spent on Ukraine, they could be used on other weapons programs, or other more concerning national matters. And don’t forget that the US isn’t just helping Ukraine. The US is keeping the sea lanes open in the Red Sea, South China Sea, Strait of Hormuz, and it’s helping Israel and Taiwan. The US can’t be everywhere for everyone. Our European allies have taken advantage of the US for far too long. They are some of the wealthiest countries in the world. They should be spending more for their own protection instead of relying on the U.S. to do it for them.

@morstyrannis1951 Have you actually looked at the list of equipment that the US has provided? Did you know that the US had to build another plant in Texas to try to keep up with Ukraine’s needs for artillery shells? Did you know that we’re expanding plant operations to make more HIMARS and the GLMRS rockets that they use in order to keep up with Ukraine’s needs? Did you know that we’re in discussions with Japan and Poland to build more Patriot and Javelins missiles on their lands respectively because of the war effort? Some of the equipment comes from old stockpiles, but a large amount comes right off the production lines.

@Lasse65 That’s money that could have been spent elsewhere where it’s more needed for either our military or domestically. Plus, much of the equipment isn’t from just old stockpiles. Furthermore, all our allies are doing the same. If it was so beneficial to give away our equipment we’d be doing it all the time, and so would our allies. I support helping, but for people to pass it off that it’s financially beneficial for the US is ridiculous. Yes, per GNP some European countries pay more, as they should. Their security is more at risk. They are wealthy enough to pay for their own security and not depend on the U.S. so much. How much of their GNP do they spend keeping the shipping lanes open around the world? How much do they use to help Israel,Taiwan, etc? The U.S. just gave Egypt $1.3 billion in aid, which helps keep peace between it and Israel. How much of their GNP are they paying for that? Six countries including the US from NATO have top ten economies, while Russia’s is ranked 11th. How is it that five countries other than the US can’t help Ukraine enough to win without needing US help? The US warned them over a decade ago to spend more on defense, and they ignored the U.S. telling us to mind our own business, and now we have to pay for their negligence. That’s not right.

@Lasse65 I brought it up because you made the reference that it doesn’t belong there, which I believe it does.. If you look at how much land Israel has gained during its conflicts, you’ll also see that it’s given up a significant amount of it to try to maintain peace.

@Lasse65 I did a little research and found under Oslo accords the West Bank was broken into three areas A, B, and C. A, which includes almost 95% of the Palestinian population is strictly Palestinian control. B, which includes another 3–4% is civilly controlled by the PA but security is by Israel. C is controlled by Israel exclusively. This was supposed to be an interim agreement to be finalized within 5 years. But that was almost 20 years ago. Since then the Palestinian delegates have refused every offer without so much as a counter offer of their own to move forward and negotiate. Without an agreement, Israel, having seen what unilateral withdrawal brings through the Gaza experience, will not go through that again.

@Lasse65 I understood your point. However, at the same time I understand why Israel needs land as a buffer zone. Israel has conquered quite a bit of territory during the various wars that it’s been involved in, and in most cases has ceded the last back to the country of origin. It didn’t have to do that. It very well could have kept the land that borders with Egypt, Lebanon, Syria… It’s the only country that I know that keeps giving away land that it once conquered for the sake of trying to maintain peace. If I was Israel’s leader, I wouldn’t give it back. Do you think Russia is going to give back territory to Ukraine? No way. Israel is fighting for its very existence.

@Lasse65 Russia won’t be forced into giving back land. That’s just wishful thinking. Who’s going to force it? The only commonality between Israel and Russia is that they both occupy land that is not technically theirs according to international law. However , there are many border disputes globally. Look at how China has made claims in the South China Sea. Heck, China has disputes with many countries over land and sea. Japan still has disputes with Russia. Does that mean that these countries are like Russia? Not in the slightest.

@Lasse65 Again, that’s wishful thinking. Someone like Trump will eventually lift sanctions. Germany and France have already been bypassing the sanctions by sending the banned technology through intermediary countries. Just look at the avionics on the Su-35. It’s from Thales. The artillery that Russia makes uses German technology. It would be great if what you’re saying is true, but it’s not realistic.

@Lasse65 That would be nice to happen, but it’s not realistic. Countries like Germany and France are already bypassing sanctions by shipping banned technology through intermediary countries. Eventually the sanctions will be lifted. Russia won’t give up anything, at least not while Putin is in charge.

@Lasse65 Nobody can force Russia to return the land, nobody. And it’s not going to come to the realization that it’s too costly to hold onto it. As time goes by the sanctions will eventually be removed, and Russia will once again be able to reap rewards for its giant oil business. What you wish and what is reality are two separate things. The same goes with Israel. Nobody is getting to force it to hand over land. Furthermore, laws are changed over time. What’s against the law today might be allowable tomorrow. You’re making too many projections that are too uncertain to know right now.
