$83 million in damages is absolutely ridiculous. Our justice system is so screwed up.

@joemendyk9994 It could be less than that and still not be fair. Your position to punish him so much is because of how much you dislike him. Just like the professor said, this ruling is only going to make people feel like Trump is being cheated, and it’s going to gain him support.

@joemendyk9994 I just heard on the news that she asked for around a third of the awarded amount. That’s what she should have been awarded.

@arthurmiller-vl6sw I watched it, and all that matters is that the awarded amount is three times greater than what she asked for. It’s excessive, and it’s an arbitrary figure that if a different group of jurors made the decision they’d come up with a different amount. It’s not just MAGA people who will support him even more, but people on the fence who think he was unjustly punished. One thing about Americans is that when someone gets screwed over the public commonly supports that person. The last thing we need is for Trump to be re-elected, but this decision only further helps that cause.

@arthurmiller-vl6sw Sorry, but I still disagree. She hit the lottery. These kinds of damages happen across the board in the US. Google Lindsey Hill false claims for a recent example. It happens in medical malpractice suits, as well as many other kinds of damages that you can think of. It’s one of the main reasons there are so many false claims. It’s also the reason why medical insurance and medical costs are so high in the US. It’s also why attorneys costs are so high, and why so many people are declaring bankruptcy. I know he’s rich and should be punished, but she shouldn’t become filthy rich as a result.

@78jpeg I agree, but that’s excessive. Excessive award damages is a huge problem in our legal system. It happens in the medical malpractice area all the time. It drives up costs, increases bankruptcies, and it hurts the general consumer and taxpayer more than anyone else. Trump is just going to do whatever he can legally to delay and avoid paying. Excessive lawsuits like this are why insurance costs, attorneys fees, and bankruptcies are sky high. I don’t like Trump either, especially because of his views about Ukraine, but $83 million is off the charts too much.

@arthurmiller-vl6sw She got awarded three times more than what she asked for. The bottom line is all that matters. His attorneys have already said they are going to appeal the decision. This could drag on for years, and who knows what will eventually happen. If it was a smaller amount the chances are much more likely that this issue could be settled and done. The sum awarded is some arbitrary figure determined by 12 jurors. If there was a different group, a different amount would be given. There’s no objective standard that determines the award amount. That’s ridiculously high when you compare it to other lawsuits. I’m not for him, but I don’t believe two wrongs make a right, and I don’t like seeing when our justice system abuses its power. It has everything to do with hate. Any site that is pro-Ukrainian automatically despises Trump because they know that he probably will stop US aid to Ukraine. I don’t like it myself, and I am Republican. It’s not just MAGA supporters that it will make further support him, but people who think that the decision wasn’t justified. People who are on the fence could be swayed his way.

@78jpeg How many times do I have to say that I am not a Trump supporter? If you haven’t noticed, all the charges against him have only increased his support. Him having to pay more than what she requested is only going to piss off more people. Google Republican Support for Trump has Increased as Newer Charges are Added by PBS. His support only grows when people perceive him as getting screwed over by the system.
