  3.  @maryginger4877 Russia at one time held 27% of Ukraine, but now it’s only around 20%. Yes, Russia is making gains, very small gains while losing large numbers of troops and equipment. Ukraine doesn’t have the luxury of a large population like Russia. It needs to be more careful about its losses. Russia in the meantime is taken heavy losses. Russia’s using 60 year old tanks, artillery, etc., and it has had to go to North Korea and Iran for help. Considering that Russia supposed to be a world power, it has shown that it’s at best a regional power.

  5. Ukraine would have lost by now if it wasn’t for the U.S. Despite having no obligation to help whatsoever, the United States has provided more aid by far than any other country. To make it a fair comparison, you have to compare the rest of the world to the United States. Maybe if the rest of the NATO nations had listened to the U.S. advice for almost two decades to spend more on defense, Ukraine wouldn’t be in this predicament of where it’s been so dependent on US military aid.

  6.  @RodolfLeclerc You have to take the entirety of Europe to compare to the US. US is by far the largest single contributor, and it doesn’t have any obligation to help whatsoever. The US also provides intel and logistical support that’s invaluable. And finally, if the EU countries took the US advice for almost 20 years ago to today to significantly increase defense spending, the Ukrainians wouldn’t be so dependent on the US. This war is in Europe’s own backyard. They should take ownership to it.

It’s the Patriot missiles, Javelins, millions of rounds of artillery shells and small arms fire, mines, HARM missiles, HiMARS, Bradleys, Humvees, M60s, NASMS, cluster munitions, and probably most importantly the intel provided. It’s your kind of disrespect why many Americans question why we should help at all.

  10.  @jonpetter8921 Let’s not twist the facts that the US has no obligation to even help. It’s also providing weapons that EU countries don’t have. Zelenskyy himself has said without US support that Ukraine will lose. The war is in Europe’s own backyard. The EU nations should be contributing more, a lot more. Plus, you have to compare all of Europe to even make a comparison. The U.S. advised its EU allies going back to the Bush administration in the 2000’s to spend more on defense, and every president since has been delivering a similar message. Instead our allies told us to mind our own business, and they did the exact opposite. If they had listened Ukraine wouldn’t be in this horrible predicament.

  12. Russia won’t agree to the 1991 borders. It’s not going to give up the land it’s taken, especially with the high losses that it’s suffered to take it. Ukraine doesn’t have the manpower to retake the land. It’s going to need to really think about how much land it’s willing to give in exchange for peace.

It didn’t have the internet and only the very wealthy flew. If it was not for the U.S. you would be speaking either German or Russian right now. You’re the kind of person why Americans question why we should help Europe at all. We’ve warned you for almost 20 years the need to increase defense spending, and you told us to not interfere, and then did the exact opposite. We also advised Europe to stop relying so heavily on Russian oil and gas, which fueled its war machine, and again you did the exact opposite. And now you’re crying about the US holding Europe accountable for its own protection. Europeans countries sent token forces to Afghanistan to fight against Al Qaeda and ISIS. They aren’t just a US problem, they’re a world problem.

I see the numerous videos of Russian soldiers complaining about battlefield conditions, and having to be sent back to the front even when wounded. Just look at the little land Russia has gained, and how much it’s lost in return.

The U.S. signed the memorandum because it feared the nukes would get into the wrong hands, and Ukraine didn’t even want them. Furthermore, other than being a dirty bomb the nukes would be practically worthless today since they had 12 year useful lives, 8 of which had already passed. The UK should help. The war is in your own backyard.

It’s the U.S. cluster munitions that has been very effective on the battlefield. It’s the US Patriot missiles that have intercepted the Kinzhal, Zircon and Iskander missiles. It’s the US Bradleys slowing down the Russian offenses. It’s the US’s logistical capabilities getting the weapons there the most, and the US intel has been invaluable. The UK provides a few Scalp missiles and thinks it’s done its job.

Yes, many countries gave SAM batteries, but the US has had to actually expand production capabilities to keep up with Ukraine’s needs for Patriot missiles. Despite not having any obligation to help, the bottom line is that the U.S. has sent far more aid than any other country.

Just cite in quotes the exact wording from the memorandum that requires the U.S. and Ukraine to help Ukraine. You can’t and you know it. Below is an excerpt from it. Unlike Article 5 of the NATO Charter, it does not require a specific response from the United States or others. So it’s worth a little history lesson. The agreement is not an official treaty. It is neither legally binding nor does it carry an enforcement mechanism. And while it provides security assurances, they do not include specific promises with regard to a potential invasion.

  43. Unfortunately, the election wasn’t only about the war in Ukraine. In fact, it wasn’t even on the radar of talking points. If the war in Ukraine was the only issue, Kamala would have won no problem. I think the main problem for Kamala was the high grocery costs and large number of homeless, which the immigration problem didn’t help, either. I voted for Kamala solely because she supported Ukraine, but most people weren’t one-issue voters like me.

  45. Numerous Russian S-400s have been destroyed. As far as I have seen, only a few Patriot launchers have been destroyed, not the entire operating system. And the S-400 is getting destroyed by what it’s supposed to be able to defeat.

  47. I like Jake for his optimism that Ukraine will win. Sometimes he’s a little too optimistic, though. He’s been saying for years that Russia can’t sustain the same level of losses, and that the Russian economy would soon collapse. While I appreciate his optimism, after a while I begin to doubt his ability to make these kinds of predictions. He has a good heart, but I wish he’d scale back his predictions, and to stop making politically biased comments that clearly show he’s a left leaning democrat.

  50.  @tracboy80  I hope you’re right. Ukraine depends a lot on foreign aid. Germany already stated it won’t be providing as much as it has in the past, and depending on who is elected in the USA the aid can be possibly be reduced even further. The fact that Russia has to offer such high salaries to recruit new soldiers is telling that it’s having a hard time finding new cannon fodder.
