Why all the hate towards the U.S.? You’re treating it like an enemy when the U.S. has provided protection for Europe for decades.
1
@RazorTracks Is your hatred towards the U.S. because Trump land in tariffs? From what I’ve read is that he only plans on putting tariffs on countries that have existing tariffs on the U.S. Why is that so controversial? If our supposed allies are going to treat the U.S. as an enemy, the U.S. should most definitely pull out of NATO and remove its troops. That will save many billions for the U.S. The U.S. should also remove its nuclear umbrella and stop securing the shipping lanes for commercial shipping. It’s unbelievable how Europe has so quickly treated the U.S. as an enemy. It makes no sense considering how the U.S. helped Europe in the world wars, and provided protection for many decades. I get why people don’t like Trump, but your hatred is directed towards all Americans.
1
@ Good for you. I hope Americans don’t stand for this disrespect and give them the same treatment.
1
@faragraf9380 So you like the free protection that the U.S. has provided all these years, and now that Trump is expecting Europe to defend itself without relying on the U.S. so much we’re no longer allies? I seem to remember him telling the other NATO members during his last presidency that unless they spent more on their militaries, he was going to pull the U.S. out of NATO.
1
@newton18311 Europe isn’t a first line of defense. The US has the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans protecting it. Going back to the Bush administration the U.S. has told the EU and UK to spend more on defense, only to be told to not interfere, and then they did the opposite and actually spent less. The US isn’t your free police force.
1
@newton18311 You do realize that prior to WWII the US wasn’t even a top ten military power? Back then it was a much larger world with no internet and travel was only for the wealthy. The US was much more of an isolationist country back then, and the people thought it was Europe’s war. Regardless, if it wasn’t for the U.S. the Germans most likely would have won, and yet this is how you treat us?
1
@ So Europe is boycotting American goods and services because of Trump’s loud mouth, which we all knew about before he became President?
1
@RazorTracks So Europe is turning its back on the US because its leader has a loud mouth? Doesn’t actions speak louder than words? You know very well that the American people would never support the US trying to take over another country, especially a good friend like Canada. Trump would never be successful in trying to invade Canada, Greenland or Panama because US Congress won’t support it to give him the money needed for those invasions. I find it ludicrous that our allies would turn their backs on the US so easily. Oh well, we’ll see how this all plays out. Trump isn’t going to fold. He’s the kind of guy who will stop supporting NATO. He doesn’t have the power to pull the U.S. out of the alliance, and Congress won’t support it. He can order the U.S. Navy to not keep safe passage for all ships like it does now. This is just an ugly road we’re all going down based on one loud mouth.
1
@RazorTracks I think we’re both actually on the same page. I don’t agree with Trump’s way of doing business with threats. A good example is announcing all these tariffs. For instance, the EU automatically assesses a 10% tariff for imported vehicles. Germany assesses an additional 17% tax. The US only assesses a 3.5% tariff. That’s obviously not fair. Germany has a huge trade surplus with the U.S. Trump wants to even things out. He should have done it diplomatically and not so aggressively.
1
@RazorTracks My concern isn’t that the US will go down. Like any other country it will do what it takes to survive, even if it has to go to other countries. Gawd forbid if the US aligns itself with Russia one day because of Trump’s loud mouth.
1
@newton18311 The war was not turning in Europe. That’s bs and you know it. You seem to have also forgotten about all the aid that the U.S. provided under the Lend Lease Act. It was the US that did the daylight bombing raids that were much more dangerous than the nighttime raids. And it was the help of the US that stormed the beaches of Normandy.
1
@newton18311 You want the U.S. to stop policing, yet you want the US to fight terrorism globally. You want US continued aid for Ukraine. You wanted the U.S. help Europe deal with Libya and to stop the atrocities from occurring in Serbia. Let me guess, you also think that the U.S. should be the primary force to deter Russia in Europe. I bet you also appreciate how the USA kept the Red Sea open from the Houthi attacks. You enjoy how the US keeps the sea lanes open don’t you? Funny how you only like the U.S. policing when it suits you.
1
@newton18311 Yeah, you only like the policing that suits your country. How about keeping the world’s waterways open? How about stopping Houthi attacks on commercial shipping? How about the US helping Europe deal with the atrocities in Serbia, or helping with Libya? You sure appreciate all the U.S. aid to Ukraine.
1
@newton18311 Tell me what does it take to get the point across to Europe that huge surpluses in trade favoring Europe isn’t fair, especially when one sided tariffs are being imposed? How long does it take the U.S. to tell Europe that it needs to significantly increase its military spending, and starting when a war starts is too late?
1
@ I actually think we’re on the same page. Trump is seeking some fairness in trade and for the protection of Europe and the U.S., but he is going about doing it completely wrong. He is trying to bully his way. In business you usually start negotiations by asking for everything you want, and then you bargain downward and make some compromises. That doesn’t work when working with your allies. He uses his strong arm business tactics on the world stage, and it’s only causing resentment and hate. It’s the same way that Russia negotiates. Putin will ask for things Russia doesn’t even want, and then act like it’s giving up a lot when it has to make a concession. I don’t know of anyone here personally in the U.S. who agrees with how he’s treating our allies. He’s done some good things domestically, but internationally he’s been horrendous.
1
@newton18311 Of course not, but not nearly on the scale it needs to be to protect European interests.
1
@newton18311 Just look at what transpired in the Red Sea as an example. Without the USN you know very well that the Houthis could have closed down commercial shipping in the Red Sea. Imagine what would happen to your commercial goods prices if that happened. What if Iran went through with one of its threats to shut down the Strait of Hormuz? Do you think that the European countries have what it takes to take on Iran? What about the war in Serbia. Do you think it would have been possible to defeat Serbia so quickly and easily with minimal loss of European and American lives by just using air power alone? Do you think that European countries could have defeated Libya without the aid of the U.S.? I am all for keeping the U.S. in NATO, but I do agree with Trump’s underlying principle, which is that the European country itself should be the primary force to fight against Russia, and that the US should be there for support. With many countries there’s too much of a reliance that the U.S. will do the work.
1
@newton18311 Tell me, do you think that the European countries could have defeated Serbia so easily without minimal loss of life by using air power alone? Do you think that Europe could have defeated Libya so easily in the same manner without US assistance? Do you think that the European countries could have handled the Houthis on their own in the Red Sea, or keep the Strait of Hormuz open if Iran decided to close it?
1
@RazorTracks Yeah, I agree that he has absolutely no tact. He tries using his business ways of strong arming countries like he does with businesses, which doesn’t work on the international stage. Ultimately, I think he got what he wants with the rest of NATO, to spend a lot more on defense to be able to handle Russia on their own so that the U.S. can focus more on China. He recently said his goal is to put tariffs on countries that tariff the U.S. He should have started off with that instead of being a bully about it. One thing I have learned with Trump is to just wait and see what his actions are, and not what his mouth says because they’re often the complete opposite.
1
@newton18311 Not at all. It was a world war after all. You just like to diminish the significance of the US contribution of the war.
1
@newton18311 No country single-handedly won the war. In fact, the Soviets lost over 20 million people, which was a huge sacrifice.
1
@newton18311 That’s true. I am not denying it. How well do you think Britain would have done without the U.S. aid under the Lend Lease Act, which was the recipient of the most aid than any other country? Stalin said that without the aid the Soviets would have lost.
1
@newton18311 You’re just hellbent on hating on the U.S. aren’t you?
1
@newton18311 Google it and look for yourself. “The United Kingdom, in particular, desperately needed help, as it was short of hard currency to pay for the military goods, food, and raw materials it needed from the United States. The United States sent the United Kingdom over $31 billion in military aid during World War II through the Lend-Lease Act. This aid included aircraft, vehicles, and other supplies.”
1
@newton18311 Yeah really. And no the U.S. doesn’t believe that most of the world likes us. That comment by itself shows your hatred.
1
@newton18311 No, most Americans don’t believe that the world likes them. You’re a great example why we know that.
1
@newton18311 “The United States sent the United Kingdom over $31 billion in military aid during World War II through the Lend-Lease Act. This aid included aircraft, vehicles, and other supplies. 1
@newton18311 Do you really think that Americans believe that the world likes them when we’re dealing with people like you?
1
@newton18311 Search for yourself and you’ll find the UK was desperate for aid. The US sent $31 billion, even in hard cash so that the UK could make purchases.
1
@newton18311 The US knows that the whole world doesn’t like it, and you’re a great example as to why.
1
@newton18311 No, the US provided $31 billion in aid to the UK. The aid to the Soviets was a separate arrangement.
