Time to index the tax brackets. Then we can focus on where the brackets sit, the rates, and the amount of tax that needs to be collected.

Stage 3 tax cuts will put upward pressure on inflation (unless the tax cuts are matched with spending cuts). The tax cuts should be delayed until inflation is under control. The cuts cuts could even be delayed until national debt has been repaid.

Australian’s need to be prioritised over people coming to Australia to work and/study.

Not really. Driving is such an inefficient use of resources compared with public transport. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s nice to enjoy being in your own car. Working from home has lead to more people moving further from the city. The rail loop will now be busy than they expected from when it was first announced. And if petrol prices increase further, more people will turn to public transport. One of the reasons fewer people use public transport is the frequency of trains. The city loop is the bottleneck. The frequency can be greatly increased once the new CBD tunnel and stations open.

Of course. There has been a lot of learnings from Melbourne (and the whole world) since last year. Due to these learnings Melbourne’s 2021 lockdowns have also been shorter than Melbourne’s 2020 lockdowns.

The harder jobs are to fill, the greater the need for recruiters. If you could fill a job by ‘would of mouth’ or a poster on your businesses window, you would cut out the middleman (i.e. the recruiter).

@brad3675 your proposal is not indexed. When inflation happens, there will be talk about lifting 45k. This conversation is a distraction. Instead (using your suggestion) 45k could be indexed to something (or a multiple things). Eg if indexed to inflation and inflation rose my 5% , then the tax free threshold would automatically increase my 5%. (That’s just a basic example. There are better things to index the brackets against)

The is would be to force multiple verification methods all at once including: * mobile number authentication * email address authentication * a credit card payment (from a card with a matching name) * ID upload verification * using a phone to scan a person’s face to make sure the user is the same person as in the profile Users should also have the option of a police check through the app. The catch is that all of these features reduce privacy.

@James-kv6kb small business doesn’t have the efficiency to deliver cheaper prices than Coles/Woolworths. Australia needs additional large supermarket chains to add competition. Unfortunately Australia never blocks any mergers or acquisitions.

The issue is the Liberal Party doesn’t know if it wants to be the “pro small government” party or the “conservative” party. It can’t always be both a the same time.

So now the government will need to spend more of additional road lanes and public transportation capacity. What a waste of materials, land and human time. Additionally what a waste of travel time and fuel for the workers. Increasing productivity, improving efficiency and reducing waste are the keys to reducing inflation.
2
And also when you grow the national debt. Spending the debt creates jobs but it’s also added to inflation. And it’s not sustainable
2
One reason is the vaccinated may still need to go to hospital for non Covid related reasons (maybe a car accident, cancer etc…). The vaccinated don’t want the unvaccinated taking all the medical staff. Hospitals can be built. Beds and ventilators can be purchased. You can’t train someone to be a doctor or ICU nurse in 2 years.
2
And the land/resources used for building and maintaining transportation infrastructure?
2
If Labor shifts too much to the right, the greens vote will increase. If this happens, Labor still form a coalition government
2
If people move further from their work more tax revenue will need to be spent on transportation infrastructure. We don’t only need rents to decrease. We need people to either live closer to their workplace or work from home. It’s time for society to look at improving land efficiency. Let’s better use the land under homes, roads, public transportation, businesses etc…
2
If wages growth isn’t higher than inflation then the government hasn’t grown the pie.

Lots of “Australian” media is foreign owned Eg NewsCorp Australia is a subsidiary of the American company NewsCorp and they own Sky News, Herald Sun, news com au, The Australian and more print newspaper bands in Australia than any other company. This issue isn’t about Australia Vs Facebook. It is about large news media losing audience tune to independent content creators. This includes larger independent YouTube creators and bloggers. It also includes when an individual posts a photo that 5 of their friends look at.

Everything you said is true. There is another reason rent goes up… But first, the reason the government has to sell visas is to fund the aged pension. Australia’s current taxation system isn’t sustainable if Australia was to have an aging population. The solution we would be to remove many tax exemptions and even asset test the “family home” - so that retirees may need to downsize before they could access their pension. All of these areas are politically very hard to address. Australians say that want more housing supply. An issue is that often people don’t want this additional supply next to their place. I can understand that someone may not want a house demolished (and trees removed) to make room for apartments. They don’t want appartments blocking light onto their garage. They don’t want additional demand for street parking and additional traffic.

Tell me about it. Having to get a drivers license to drive. A passport to go overseas. Show proof of age ID to enter nightclubs, buy alcohol and cigarettes.

Will workers forced back to the office choose to dine and shop? Or will workers resent commercial real estate owners, hospitality and retail and not spend their money in protest? (Keep in mind that I personally like working from the office abs went back months ago. That said, I also like the idea of less government spending being needed on public transportation and roads if people choose to work from home).
1
The people that “saved” it have already spent it Eg * share prices are up * real state prices haven’t fallen as much as first predicted * the price of gold is up * the price of Bitcoin is up Some people paid down their credit. None of these things will replace the spending that came from JobKeeper.

They only know how to get unemployment low by increasing inflation (ie by increasing the deficit)

What do real Australian’s need?

The federal government and large media blackmailed Facebook into action removing news. I’m glad Facebook to up to these bullies. Why? The news media code is the digital equivalent of making a news agency pay publishers if newspaper covers are visible to potential customers. The code distorts a free market. Only Google and Facebook would have to pay. Not Microsoft, Twitter, reddit etc.... Money from the code only flows to large media organisations. Small independent publishers can’t get money using the code. Independent content creators (Eg bloggers, YouTube creators etc... ) can’t use the code to get money. This makes it harder for Australia to get more media diversity. And we do have a major media diversity problem Eg1 Sky News, news com au , Herald Sun and The Australian are all Murdoch Eg2 The Age, SMH and ch9 are all ch9

@PineapplePoko the government can impact inflation/deflation with this spending and taxing choices. This means government choices can force the RBAs hand on interest rates. Eg if the government increases taxation without increasing spending, it takes buying power out of the economy. When the RBA raises interest rates, it takes buying power out of the economy. All political parties don’t control inflation as much as they could because it’s politically unpopular. The parties would prefer that the RBA takes the heat.

@backinthegame34 deficit government spending typically does contribute to inflation (higher prices) as it adds demand to markets. The exception is if government spending improves productivity enough to increase supply by more than the spending increases demand. This is really hard to do. Not all spending by the public creates the same level of price increases either. Eg ultra wealthy often spend money on things in limited supply * land * shares * original art * etc… The design costs to create a Bugatti are spread across the sales of very few Bugatti’s (a very inefficient manufacturing process). The working class spend more of their income on mass produced items. Give more money to the working class and you’ll see increases in ‘economies of scale’ until the money trickles up to the wealthy. That said, a mass produced item that doesn’t last very long isn’t an efficient use of resources (in the long term).
1
@backinthegame34 that’s a fantastic question! I’ve given it a thumbs up. What do you think?

@VenturiLife to be fair, didn’t Bill Gates save Apple to avoid a complete Microsoft monopoly?

Some media isn’t allowing comments because they don’t want the responsibility of policing comments. People should be responsible for their own comments. That can’t happen while people can easily comment anonymously. Media doesn’t want responsibility. Social media doesn’t want responsibility. People don’t to use their real names. It looks like a stalemate. Nobody wants comment sections disabled. It’s a stalemate.

What policies would you like them to change to be more “centre right”?

@Whoisthis1111 maybe the Liberals need to decide if they want to be the “pro smaller government party” or the “conservative party”. Because often being the “conservative party” requires a larger government. Splitting into two parties that are more genuine could actually help. These parties could always compromise to form government after an election - with the party with the fewer seats having to compromise more. These two parties could also give each other their voting preference recommendations.
