@SigFigNewton So what do we do? Simply waiting for it to fall apart doesn't sound very appealing to me.

@SigFigNewton I mean Japan has adapted to a real estate market where houses have basically become like cars. But they are the exception. And they still can't overcome the diminishing work force problem. So how do we address that?

I wouldn’t say we need “degrowth” what we need instead is a shift in priorities and mindset and how we measure success. A carbon tax is a good first step. Building nuclear power plants with a plan to phase out coal and natural gas soon after that. Invest in better urban planning and mass transit as well as electric vehicles, electric stoves, and even electric heating. The economy may grow or it may shrink. The important thing is making sure everyone has food on their table, a roof over their heads, that young people can be educated, the sick and lame cared for, and the elderly able to retire with dignity. A quality of life that is just as good or better with net zero emissions. It may sound impossible but it’s a worthy goal and it should direct our policy decisions.
