I'm what you can say "elite" (high middle income class) from Catholic Borneo family when i came to study in Jakarta, a metropolitan in Java which is certainly a strong modernist civilization, i was shocked how i who are literally an elite class from completely different culture can get along and communicate better with the local muslim Sundanese than their elites. Its very funny since i often refer myself as having similar culture to Philipines, following the same religion and even came from the same ancestry.
