  2. Sappho is known because she was from Lesbos and considered homosexual, not for her poetry. How many people in Europe and America can read her poetry as written in her form of Greek?

  3. Well it's 2025 not some remains of a some ancient Ephesian Roman domus. I doubt 99% of modern Europeans and Americans would have heard of Sappho, but lesbian they would know.

  5. She might not have been all Macedonian Greek, most likely having some ancestry from Persia and the Middle East. She also was more of an expatriate Greek coming from Greek stock not born in Greece. Think of Italian Americans and how they say Gabagool for a particular pork product and cannot speak Italian.
