It is more that just base pair differenced between humans and chimpanzees, chromosomes have parts that have broken off and reattached from the other end, with humans two chromosomes pairs have joine together giving us 46 chromosomes to the chimp's 48. Human individuals just have spot differences to each other, a base that changes A, T, C and G. The differences are minor. Ancient dna gives deaminated.
