  1. The statements by Facebook and Twitter that the executive order is threatening internet freedom confuses me. If they choose to be passive platforms that do not interfere with content, which is certainly best for freedom of expression, they will remain immune from liability in accordance with 230(c) of the Communications Decency Act (section 230(c)). 47 U.S.C. 230(c). The executive order says social media companies that actively engage in censor should lose their immunity and become liable for its content as any editor (e.g. newspaper).
